I didn't know why I couldn't have a savings account so I asked, the answer was a little shocking. "It's a character issue." You would be one to talk about ignorance. Maybe you should not read my reply but go read some statistics about some European countries and the progress they are making with harm reduction as it pertains to drug abuse. The drug isn't the problem. People like you are the problem. You would rather throw someone in prison than try to help them with their problem. That is truly a shame.
I never said anything about going to work while tripping on acid. That is absurd. People have relationships everyday while on acid and do very well at it.

There is documented proof that alcohol abuse and use decreased when prohibition ended. Unfortunately we do not allow ourselves to learn from our own history and mistakes.

You are correct and I agree, no matter the policy there will be abuse. So why not try to educate people and treat their sickness instead of throwing them away like yesterdays garbage. I guess you will never understand that because you think a plant that has been used by many cultures since 4000 B.C. is "The Problem." I think you are the one that needs to wake up and recognize the obvious sometime in your life. But I digress..... Why am I even replying to you. I am a moron and support drug decriminalization. I should probably be in prison as far as you are concerned. I am a vacuous malignancy on the morally superior in the land of the free.

Your argument is ridiculous. If drugs were not illegal then those people who become destitute may never even have run into those problems in the first place. If we looked at ALL drugs as a health issue and not a criminal one then we would probably make much greater headway in reform and keeping people off of drugs in the first place.

It is unfortunate but there is always going to be a percentage of the population addicted to drugs. Whether they are legal or not. I would much rather my tax dollars go to helping someone with a health problem get better, than to see them go to imprison someone with a health problem. You see, either way they are getting your tax dollars. Why not use them to research harm reduction instead of building prisons?

I don't think longer time in school is the answer. I do think we should make fundamental changes in the way school works though. I think K-12 should all exist on the same campus. I think older kids should be involved in teaching younger kids and also take part in supporting after school programs. I think everything from wood shop, auto shop, and associated trades to advanced math and science programs should be available for students who excel or are interested in said areas. I also think that if you do bad in one subject it shouldn't necessarily keep you from progressing with your class. Maybe you need to re-take that subject again, but no reason not to continue with your peers and apply more work where it is needed.

I guess I live in some type of dream land.....

That isn't entirely accurate. Much of the deficit that is coming to light now is the expense of the wars that we are in and only now are we seeing the true cost. It was not part of the budget under Bush so the numbers were skewed. That does not excuse Obama of spending like my wife at Macy's, but the entire fault of our predicament cannot be placed on Obama.

If there were a way to reign in the Congress and the President and stop them from mortgaging my kids futures believe me I would be all for it. The problem isn't that we elected a Democrat. The problem is that we have a 2 party system and anyone who would truly do right by the people is laughed at for considering a run at the presidency.

What would you have us do right now to stop the president? Realistically what can we do. I write my representatives in Congress and ask them to stop spending money we don't have. I have done it many times. That doesn't seem to work though. So short of something drastic and unrealistic like exercising my right to bear arms, what would you have me do to affect positive change? Oh, and for the record, I am seeing exactly the change that I expected. Be careful how you use the word "you". Don't let my responses convince you of my political stance on issues, or my party affiliation.
