No. Typically current increases *because* resistance decreases (Larger transistors, for instance). Usually it is the voltage that remains constant. Therefore P = V*I is the relevant formula here.

  2. U.S. the new "down under"? on Stem Cell Bill Passes in Australia · · Score: -1, Flamebait

It's incredible how countries around the world are prepared to take bold steps to further science, while we are still mired in our ridiculous issues. (I'm sorry, but squashing a potential cure for a disease like Parkinson's, to protect an embryo that was going to be destroyed anyway, does not fall under my definition of "ethics") Leave it to the fundamentalists, and our country is going "down under".

  3. Medical Effects? on Kids with Cell Phones, How Young is Too Young? · · Score: 1

Interesting.... The author mentions that the possible medical effect on kids is the primary concern here; however no one on /. seems to have brought that up. I agree, radiation effects of cellphones are not proven yet, but I still get the impression that people are more concerned about money and manners than the health of our kids!

I wonder how you approached the process of reading TFA! Looked around for numbers so that you would have something to post??? This guy trained only for 3 days! He was a novice! The article you linked says the TOP speed recorded was 16.9mph, evidently with an expert.

  5. Plugged in? on Dell's Exploding Laptop Autopsy · · Score: 5, Interesting
I searched TFA but couldnt find the answer to what I believe is a critical question. Was the laptop plugged into an AC outlet when it exploded? If so, even a short could cause an explosion.

On the other hand, if the battery exploded entirely by itself, a major recall is due...

  6. Re:Destroying Innovation on Amazon One-Click Patent to be Re-Examined · · Score: 1
If someone had the idea first, they will obviously sue us, and rightly so.

However, what we are afraid of is that someone who gets the idea AFTER us (or worse, FROM us), will apply for a patent BEFORE us, and put us out of business!
Which is why we spend so much time applying for patents even while the technology is under development.

I do not call for abolishing the "patent" system. I call for abolishing the "i have the patent so all the technology you developed and sold has no significance" system.

  7. Destroying Innovation on Amazon One-Click Patent to be Re-Examined · · Score: 3, Informative
I know this has been discussed several times before, but let me repeat, we need this system to go soon, else countless people will have been harmed.

I work for a small startup company, we've been in existence 1 year and have only 15 people. Inspite of us working overtime everyday, we spend hours with our patent attorneys, filing patents for every small thing we do.

Reason: we might find ourselves suddenly sued by someone over infringement

We need to clean out this whole system, else all people will do is file patents and file lawsuits. Lets hope the Amazon re-examination is a precursor to bigger things.

This is utter crap! I tested this on 4 of my papers, 3 of them got scores of 18.7%, 24.3% and 25.9%! One got a score of 62.3%. This is a gimmick (and a very badly executed one)!
