    Your LINUX acronym is a backronym. The name Linux comes from the first place Linus uploaded the kernel to. He didn't supply a name for it, so they made one up.

    Ever read any of your man pages? Check out how many of your basic commands and system utilities are FSF. Hell, ls was partially written by Stallman.

    Actually, simply including MSIE with Windows wasn't their crime- it was their insistence that vendors include ONLY MSIE, along with other demands, else lose the right to sell MSFT products, that was MSFT's crime.

    Whorf and Sapir fail, imo, because they're looking for a one-way street. Thinking less of queer people leads to saying "gay", which reinforces the lack of respect for queer people. which leads to saying "gay" for lame... I'll see your anecdotal group of queer friends who use "gay" for lame and raise you an anecdotal campus full of homophobes who think the words are synonymous.

    It isn't about functionality, it's about mindshare. Anyone could slap together a PHP or MySQL app to replace Facebook in a few weeks, but replicating the idea that The Facebook is where you go to post pics of yourself, catch up with friends, and schedule the party for this weekend? Anyone would kill for that sort of mindshare.

    Sorry, no. The correct response to a bad system is not playing along and creating crappy situations that soften the blow of that bad system, it's knocking down the system and creating something healthier. I mean, by your logic, everyone should just write programs for Windows that make the crappiness of Windows more bearable instead of saying "Fuck you, MSFT!" and creating/ programming for Linux.

    I use PCLinuxOS, which started as a Mandriva fork. It comes on one cd, and anything I need I just download through Synaptic.
