  1. Sorry, I share his ignorance. I don't like using labels but even I recognise 'authoritarian progressives' as a valid description of how many people act and behave.

Could you perhaps help educate us both by posting something a little more informative than "I've heard it all"?

Have you ever taken out a loan? Do you have a credit card? I don't know you, I have no reason to trust you, I wouldn't lend you money.

Using 'these guys' though I could assess the risks involved and determine whether I'm likely to get my money back. This means that I may indeed extend credit to you, if that risk is lower than the costs to me of covering it.

So you directly benefit, as you can now borrow money where you would otherwise have been unable. I benefit, as I can turn capital into income. The economy benefits and the Government benefits, because I pay taxes on that income.

I wish all plagues could work like this.

No, it's not. Until you've learned to read and understand what you've read, consider avoiding sharing your idiocy in Slashdot comments.

Perhaps protesting against other people being racist sexist cunts is something they could volunteer to do. You'd support that, surely?

Mainly through constant and (this is the important bit) socially acceptable hypocrisy. e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

There's still a fair amount of book form Victorian erotica around - mostly involving spanking and other forms of chastisement. Or maybe that's just a subset I encountered.

  17. current plans are to build the ship, attach one module, and that ship will use that module for its whole service life

There's a lot of sense to that. Design and build a capable hull, powerplant and crew accommodation, then plug in the bits that make a ship appropriate for role.

Now you've got common parts, your dock facilities can accommodate any ship in the fleet and crew training is easier, but you still benefit from an ASW ship that's good at hunting subs, an AA ship with long and short range anti-aircraft and missile defence abilities, and a marine landing ship that can actually deploy marines.
