By my calculations, if you spend $20 a month on MMO subscriptions then you can spend $600 on two-and-a-half years (30 months) of MMO playing. Granted, $20 a month is a bit more than most subscriptions are today, but we can assume that this will include paying for the game in the first place and the inevetiable inflation.
So which would you pick: one PS3 or two-and-a-half years of playing WOW?
What this map does not take into account, of course, is where the individual developers are based - it is a representation of enterprise open source providers, as opposed to open source developers - and it would be interesting to see how different that map would look (if it were possible to create one).
It makes sense to see so many dots in the Silicon Valley since this is a map of where companies who develop open source software are located. I would guess that if plotted where developers who have created open source software, enterprise or not, are located that you will find a *lot* more dots in Europe and a lot less in Silicon Valley.
The 'did you mean' feature has yet to let me down.
I acutally had the did you mean feature let me down yesterday. In the fortunes there's one that reads, "sillema sillema nika su" and I suggset Googling it and checking the results you get with the did you mean feature. It's a big credit to Google that things like that are so rare.
Acutally I'm glad that this was posted on Slashdot because now lots of people who are against landmines now know that there are still people who are trying to "improve" that technology. Simply seeing this story has raised my awareness of how much still needs to be done to rid the world of landmines and those who would manufacture and/or deploy them.
It did have me wondering about what sort of mp3's would be considered pornografic. Although if there was such an mp3, I'm sure it would become the most popular download in only a day or so.
Smart people please tell me how many bits in a byte, how many bytes in a Kb, how many Kb in a Mb
Ok, there are eight bits in a byte, one thousand twenty-four bytes in a Kb and one thousand twenty-four Kb in a Mb. Glad to be of service.
Oh, and I'm terribly bad at reading sarcasm in written communications. So in case you ever decide to use sarcasm, you might want to include some sarcasm tags.
Does anyone else think that there are too many different currency units in the summary? While you were at it, why didn't you throw in Euros for good measure?
Insert Windows XP Pro CD into apropriate media reader connected to the PC you want IIS installed on.
Go to add/remove software from the control panel.
Select add/remove windows componets.
Select IIS, then select OK.
And you should now have IIS installed without costing you any more than that WinXP Pro CD did.
(Warning: I am not at my Windows box right now so the actual steps may varry slightly. If you can't figure out how to deal with any variations by yourself, then you probably shouldn't be installing IIS.)
Multiple core systems are a boon for anyone who runs multiple processes simultaneously and/or have a lot of services, background processes and other apps running at once.
In other words, it sounds like it's perfect for all those people who wanted to get another processor to run their spyware on but couldn't afford the extra CPU before now.

So really, nothing to see here, move along.
Hmmm. For me when I search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sillema+sille ma+nika+su&btnG=Google+Search/ it suggests changing the 'a' at the end of the first two words to an 's'. Maybe they've fixed it and I've got a stale page in my cache.

You obviously haven't been using IE in a while, tabs are non-existant there. While it's true that IE 7 has tabs now, but it's still in beta.
Behold the magic of instanceing. It's a level 11 Sorc/Wiz/DM spell that lets you duplicate an entire dungeon.
I tagged this as 'badmath' for having the percentages add up to 98%.
M$ doesn't need to buy Java. C# is pretty much their answer to Java.

Why should I when I refresh the front page every ten minutes?
It looks like you will be able to get them in pdf from from the contest website. (As of the time of this posting, the link hasn't gone live.)

In that case these simple instructions aren't for you. You need a more advanced set of instructions. ;-)
The simple solution to not having IIS installed

So what would this have said about the SETI program if they had recieved a signal that they couldn't verify with NASA?
I would lose access to a wonderful sweedish website.

You must be able to quote at least 75% of the movie "Hackers
Are you stoned or stupid?
Why do they insist on putting none executable data and documentation inside .exe files?
Probably they want to save on bandwidth. Of course using BitTorrent would likely help more than compressing the files.
