  1. Most Vedors don't even support 99.999 on Why Is Less Than 99.9% Uptime Acceptable? · · Score: 1

Without loads of fine print written into the contract. I have worked with HP over the years and 99.999 was only supported for Machines in a ServiceGuard Configuration, and you still had to take 1/2 of the machine down for regular patch intervals. My favorite was the soft failure of a CPU up to 2001, it still caused an HPMC although they sold managers on the fact that the CPU would just be soft removed.

You have the poorest understanding of evolution, biology and sexual education of anyone outside of Kansas of which anyone outside of Kansas should be proud. Genetic Evolution such as Natural Selection of Aleles and general natural selection still has not been logically or scientifically refuted as of yet. How does creationism or intelligent design imply the creation of morality? I am moral because I realize the effect of the disparity between rich and poor has on humanity and thus am less likely to be killed in a revolution (thus increasing my likelyhood of natural selection). Why do animal mothers protect their young? There is no scientific answer as to why and they certainly don't suffer the compunctions of an enforced morality. Evolution specifically leads us to avoid disease, but Creationism wants us to embrace it as God's will. Is it God's will to allow someone to die of hunger while he has given us the knowledge to avoid diseased meats?

  3. SMS cost is not marginal or 0 on The True Cost of SMS Messages · · Score: 1

The operator has to invest in at least One SMSC per region. This is at a cost of several million dollars. It is a very limited market where the main vendor is like Logica. It is usually a high powered cluster of machines running a major database like Oracle (which is not cheap), and the 24x7x365 support for the machines is a pretty penny as well. This requires several links to the Home Location Register. Receiving an SMS is inexpensive as the page is sent over usually the Main Broadcast Control Channel which is usually combined with the Cell Broadcast Functionality at least in GSM/GPRS/EDGE. SMS has a lot of layers and is quite processing intensive even though it is supposedly transparent to the 3G UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA networks. SMS over Packet service is definitely the way to go, but a lot of operators already have the infrastructure for SMS over Circuit and have not upgraded as of yet. MMS is also expensive as well as it is quite a sizable message and this is how some operators have implemented their push to talk mechanism.

Too many engineers are constrained by the current technology and fail to dream beyond. I am proficient in C, and C++ along with higher level languages such as Java.
