  1. the best hybrid on Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Talks End · · Score: 1

why not just use Blu-Ray technolgy and HD-DVD name? Lets have one technology and an agreed royalty share - an effective buy-out. At least this way it will save millions in marketing in a format war, and both groups get a degree of guarenteed success. and more importantly will allow me to enjoy the format sooner as i won't have to wait for winner.

Watching people play video games on TV?
It is bad enough watching people in real life while waiting for your turn...
    The three most boring activities:
Listening to someone describing their dreams
Listening to someone describe their workout routine
Watching someone else play video games.
Seriously- I think that much like building models or programming, playing games is fun if you are doing it, but who wants to watch someone else do it?
Than again people watch poker and golf on TV....

Correct me if I am wrong, but this law simply restricts minors from purchasing/renting "violent" games without their parents' knowledge. This simply forces the parents to get involved. If a parent doesn't think that the game is too violent, then that parent can simply authorize the purchase (ie: purchase it for the child). This law seems to really be made for parents who don't care to get involved with their child; it simply governs the child when the parents fail to.

Some interesting speculation as to why Google's purchasing a bunch of dark fiber: The probable answer lies in one of Google's underground parking garages in Mountain View. There, in a secret area off-limits even to regular GoogleFolk, is a shipping container. But it isn't just any shipping container. This shipping container is a prototype data center. Google hired a pair of very bright industrial designers to figure out how to cram the greatest number of CPUs, the most storage, memory and power support into a 20- or 40-foot box. We're talking about 5000 Opteron processors and 3.5 petabytes of disk storage that can be dropped-off overnight by a tractor-trailer rig. The idea is to plant one of these puppies anywhere Google owns access to fiber, basically turning the entire Internet into a giant processing and storage grid.

This always amused me: http://www.benedict.com/Audio/dre/dre.aspx When the Napster maelstrom hit the recording industry, Dr. Dre, along with Metallica, was one of the first to hurl accusations of copyright infringement at the popular file sharing site.

Dr. Dre is furious that people are using Napster to download his song "Lolo" without permission or license - an obvious "copyright infringement". The irony is that the prominent feature of that song is a sound that Dr. Dre appropriated without permission or license - an obvious "copyright infringement"?

  9. Re:VIA C3 Bug on Previewing Dapper And Edgy · · Score: 1

The only instruction, which comes to mind, is the CMOV instruction, which is not implemented on pre-Nehemia C3 processors (e.g. Ezra). But AFAIK, Ubuntu is compiled with -march=i386, so it should not use the instruction, unless you installed some i686-specific packet (libc6-i686, kernel-686, ...).
