Well, technically you could dump a tennant's stuff on the curb in any state - but you would be in violation of the law, even in Texas, if you didn't store it for at least 60 days. Here is the Texas law regarding a landlord removing a tennants possesions -
IX. Landlord's Removal of Property After Abandonment by the Tenant
A landlord may remove and store any property of a tenant that remains after the premises has been abandoned. The landlord may also dispose of the stored property if the tenant does not claim the property within 60 days after the date the property is stored. The landlord must deliver by certified mail to the tenant at the tenant's last known address a notice stating that the landlord may dispose of the tenant's property if the tenant does not claim the property within 60 days after the date the property is stored.
Breaking the law was their appropriate response. All I'm saying is if it is appropriate to break one law, why not all of them? How is breaking the law in the exact same manner as the "hacker" justified in their case? Makes no sense. Laws should apply to eveyone, not just "the bad guys". With all the evidence the sysadmin had acquired without breaking the law, it seems like he could have gone to the proper law enforcement authorities and let them handle the "case building evidence" phase.
So why didn't they just track down the "hacker" and kill him? I mean after all they have a right to protect their systems, apparently by any means necessary, legal or not...
"After evicting a tenant, and failure to claim property, either auction/yard sale the stuff, or set asid e a specific time to be there when you let people haul stuff away."
You would most likely be violating the law. If a tennant vacates and leaves items behind, it is the responsibility of the landlord to secure and store the items, and provide access to the items to the tennant. The landlord doesn't necessarily have to do this free, but any charges would have to be reasonable and explained. I know this the hard way after evicting a scumbag from an aprtment I used to own, then getting sued by her because she didn't pick up her "thrift store" furniture after 2 1/2 months, and I had it hauled away. Live and leaarn I guess. (Side note - I did end up justifying the keeping of about 90% of her damage deposit though, which was well more than the "value" of her crap I threw out and was sued for.)
Wouldn't it just be easier for the kid to go over to a friend's house, where the parents over there are oblivious?? Hey, that's what I always did when I was a kid and got grounded from watching TV. "I'm going over to Joe's to play baseball!" - when me and Joe were really watching some quality Dukes of Hazzard...
And by coincidence, the rates of children's crimes is disporportionately high in those same "civilized countries". Seriously people, a beating as a child can save you many beatings as an adult. Not advocating unnecessary violence, but come on - who else thinks that now children have more power than adults by filing false child abuse charges? Kids don't understand the consequences of their actions and will often lie about serious matters - especially with the slightest bit of coaching by an over zealous prosecutor... It has been proven in multiple studies that children will lie if they think that is the answers that you want to hear.
And if you don't agree with what I am saying, I swear I will beat you like a redheaded stepchild!
The look and feel of the "Futuristic city" is what all films post-Blade Runner copied. Before BR cities of the future looked big, empty, clean, bright, and Jetsons-like. Blade Runner had the future city looking dark, dirty, run down, and dismal. Off the top of my head, the movies it has influenced are -
Batman
Batman Begins
Fifth Element
Dark City
Judge Dread
The Terminator
The Matrix
Children of Men
Even cyberpunk author William Gibson said he was blown away by the imagery of the movie and that it was "better than he pictured in his own head" about a "cyberpunk city".
I myself always thought that in order to be true sci-fi, you also had to make a commentary on political/sociological/religious subjects. The fact that they are set in other worlds was so the authors wouldn't get lynched by saying "Christianity is bad" - they can say "Mugwortism is bad" and then draw all the parallels they wanted.
In that respect, I've never considered Star Wars to be anything close to sci-fi - I would say it is more of a serial/space opera/western/war movie. And it kicks major ass...
I know you were probably trying to be funny, but in case you weren't...
You would use a compass by utilizing your visual sense to look at it, and the brain would process the signal in a traditional matter. That is entirely different from what TFA is talking about. If the Chinese invented a compass you used by sense of touch, bypasssing the traditional senses, you may have a point.
I thought about mentioning that fact also, but figured one grammar lesson a day is enough. (I reasoned that someone using "Nazi's" for the plural form of "Nazis" may not grasp the higher grammar concepts anyways.) Plus, I'm not really a Grammar Nazi, I just play one on Slashdot...
Wow, that is probably the craziest post I have ever read. Look at any movies before it that had "futuristic cities". Notice thaey all looked like Jetsons cities - clean, shiny, artsy, and horribly dated. Now look at the same "futuristic cities" in movies post-Bladerunner - dirty, gritty, dark, and realistic. How easily you discount a film that has literally impacted almost every film folliwing it in it's genre. And action flick? Dude, you better go watch it again and this time pay attention... The film is about what makes humans beings human and what separtes artificial intelligence from creatures with souls. Eh, but you are probably right - Phillip K Dick is really well known for writing stories with no depth and weak premises...
"Then Blade Runner is trivia.
Nothing more came from that.(not directly)"
Yeah, only the look for every other cyberpunk type movie that came out after it. But other than influencing just about every film in a genre that came out after it, you are right - nothing more came from it. I wouldn't consider that kind of influence "indirect".
The irony of being a grammar Nazi by pointing out that the statement "People like you make Nazi's look good." is incorrect. It should be "People like you make Nazis look good." - unless there is some unseen object that the Nazis posses, the apostrophe before the "s" is unnecessary and incorrect. Simply adding a "s" to the end is sufficient to make it plural.

But do you enjoy the music of Michael Bolton?
Not even close.
I wish my parents had told me to only look at classy porn. But no, they kept pushing that damn Goatse on me...

Anybody ever seen a shirt or bumper sticker that reads "Everything I need to know in life I learned from Serenity". Didn't think so. Case closed.

The fact that you think that way means advertising is working well on you...
I've said it once and I'll say it again - I'm not a Grammar Nazi, I only play one on Slashdot!
I believe the proper headline should read "French Train Breaks Speed Record Surrendering to German Train".
Or maybe, just maybe, there wasn't enough interest and Fox knew it wouldn't make any money? Nah, that would be too obvious, right?

Cell phone, maybe but ethernet is hardly a product. You can't go to your local tech store and "buy ethernet".

So lets compare them to Serenity movies number four, five, and six. What, they didn't make any more than one? Wonder why not?
