One drawback I can see as I was getting interested in ReplayTV - you need to have a land line AND a broadband connection..Why in the world would they require a POTS line to download the guide when the thing is already hooked into the internet???? Thumbs down here, ditched my land line a while back... Do all DVR boxes use a phone line for this??
So now what are all the 15 year old little crakers going to do in the 10 minutes it would have taken them to crack the next version of StarForce?? I wonder why this was abandoned???
"Just to point out that Return to Castle Wolfenstein was released a long time after the original Wolfenstein 3d, and gamers still remembered the original that started it all..."
I'm pretty sure ID didn't start the sequel to Wolfenstien 3D until a long time after the first one was released - unlike DNF.
Hell, I remember playing the original Castle Wolfenstien back on my old Atari 800 - now THAT was a game...
Actually it was FidoBBS - nice and small with lots of features. I actually got it running on a friend's IBM PC Jr. with just 2 floppy drives and a small RAM drive - and there was still half a floppy available for message storage and uploads....
I was doing that in DoubleDOS long before Windows hit the scene (mid 80s)... It worked just great with 1 MB of RAM! I mostly used it because at the time I was runnig a BBS and wanted to still be able to do other things without taking it offline.
And when was the last time you accepted a used blanket from a stranger on the street??? Wearing a hazmat suit??? Come to think of it, this actually could be a good way to speed up Darwinism...
"So here is the rub. One not only has to have the equipment and expertise to create the biowepon. One also needs a way to infect people in lethal doses."
And let's not forget the psychopathic mentality to actually use such a weapon.
So you need to be -

*Rich
*Crazy
*Secretive
"In that case, why go to the trouble of developing bioweapons at all?
They can just as easilly achieve the same results with conventional explosives. Or guns. Or knifes. Or hand-to-hand combat specialists."
Precisely. Look at David "Son of Sam" Berkowitz - he had the entire city of New York scared shitless for the better part of a year - and all he had was a.44 magnum, and some crazy letters...
If you can't tell the difference between an actual OS and a Virtual one, you have no business doing any formatting/installation of operating systems period.
Besides, try booting Windows and formatting your C: drive - that would never work.
It may be semantics, but I don't consider overwritng the BIOS "frying" hardware. It may put the system into an un-operable state, which sucks, but does not permanantly destroy any hardware. In most cases, 100% recoverable by re-flashing with a good BIOS binary. And, you would have to actually execute the flash program - most BIOS are designed to not flash unless the BIOS is the proper type for that BIOS. Any modern BIOS should not be prone to this type of attack.
"If you're so skeptical, explain why this won't happen. You can't because it already happens"
I don't need to explain why it WON'T happen, I never claimed it wouldn't.
That's funny, the other post only said it was possible (with today's software even) and WOULD happen, now you are claiming it IS happening - please give an example.
Besides, the "Virtual PC" you speak of doesn't really exist outside of the OS - so by scrapping the OS you kill the "Virtual PC" also.
I think my FUD detector just went off. So far there haven't been any malware that has "fried" hardware , at least that I know of. If you have a legit example, I'd love to hear about it...
I do think that if the same % population used it as currently uses windows, then there would be more serious problems with it.
"FYI, That statement has been proven to be FUD for quite some time now."
Um, how exactly? The only way it could be proven is if Apple had a significant share of the market. Which they don't, and won't. Nothing against Apple or Macs, it's just the numbers.

"A few years ago, Mr. Jones relocated his family after some neighbors learned of his profession, and forbade their children from playing with his. "
Yep, he should have gave his neighbors the free month pass like they wanted - this could have all been avoided.

Con$oles are teh suck d00d!!!!
Yep, had a Trash-80 back in the day myself - with dual side-by-side 8" floppies..
And even better, on FidoNet you could actually send email across the country without paying for dial-up fees.
You haven't lived until you have had a flamewar on a BBS with a 300 baud connection...
"Are people just tools to you as well?"
Well, a lot of the people that post here are tools...
(present company included)

I think your brain has "the mother of all rootkits" installed.
"Even if that doesn't exist yet, one day it will because it is possible using software that is even freely available today"
Priceless. If the software is freely available today, and it is possible - (do I even need to ask it?) why doesn't your "Matrix Malware" exist now??
Sure they do..blame OTHER PEOPLE
Yeah, like that nasty Goodtimes Virus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodtimes_virus

Who is reading this at work right now when they should be doing something else??
"They work at Apple for love, not monetary rewards..."
Really, can I have their paychecks then??? They can pay their landlord with all the love they earn working for Apple...
"So, let me get this straight, if you're a propagandist for a terrorist group, you're a terrorist?"
The only difference between "terrorist" and "freedom fighter" is your point of view.
"Yay. I wonder where this slippery slope ends up?"
Guantanamo Bay apparently...
Wow, I had no idea Bush and his cronies watched "The Lone Gunman", let alone got their ideas from it...
