You dam geeks with wires really think your pc is your property? pc manufactures build it, we write the software. All you do is pay for it. That makes it more ours than yours. You geeks simply can't be trusted to do things in ways that ensure our profits, so we will do it for you.
now shut up and go back to playing with your wires... Leave the big decisions to us..
See, to me downloading movies songs etc. is NOT copyright infringement. Copyright infringement (IMHO) is me taking someones work, calling it mine, and selling it and making a profit. I am not claiming that I made the songs or movies.. I am not selling them. They just magically showed up on my hard drive:)
I fully respect that companies need a way to make profit.
Yes by walking on the heads of the people. Treating us, the very people that give them their profit, like shit. That buy our lawmakers to do their bidding and treat us like criminals..They want us to be good little drones. O wait it must be ok if it makes a profit. And how much is enough? When does it end? Copyright and IP are broken, and needs to be done away with. Corps are not people, and you are a shill.
"Am I the only one who doesn't see this as a positive thing?"
No, one of two, I think this is the beginning of the end.
"So it could be a "turning point" in the space age alright. It could be the end of it."
I couldn't agree more.. Now we have wonderful things like patents and copyrights and IP law and profits in space, instead of science and exploration, benefiting all of man kind. We all know how IP spurs innovation right? I can see it now: "To see pictures of space just send $40 to Spacex and Subscribe now!" They will soon realize that getting into space is real real difficult, and making a profit out of it is even more difficult. By then NASA would have been cut down to a puny fraction of what they are now. And it will all end in a big profit less thud..
JFK's new revised speech for our century:
"We choose not to go to the moon in this decade, not because it is hard, but because it does not make money. So we will do the other things that make money.
Ah ha! " commercial gain. " That's a horse of a different color. I'm sure this was not tenenbaums motive.. When the government learns that it is the the PEOPLE - We the people - in this country that are special and need to be listened to, and not CORPORATIONS or the 1% then perhaps we can get things done.
"You want to change things, get more active in your democratic system."
Dude, the system is tightly rigged to support the rich and large corporations. Voting, and "getting involved" is probably the biggest gaff there is. Makes us little people think we are in control. Like Vegas, sometimes you win a little but the house always rules. I used to believe that our vote mattered.. I grew up. This kind of judgement should never, never, never happen to a citizen for 30 fucking songs. It shows how broken and greedy and rigged our system is. Something that broken can't be fixed by "getting involved" especially when you don't have millions to shell out to your congress critters. But perhaps a revolution can. People like you are so gullible..
If someone stole and destroyed my $20,0000 car, and I sued him for 4.7 Million, do you think a court would award me such damages? No, the would laugh me out of court.. So how is it that 30 songs is worth over a half a million? And this is fair and reasonable? Some one please explain it to me..
The man is correct: "Money buys you access, access buys you laws."
So they think that notebooks, cell phones, and electronic gadgets can interfere with avionics of a plane and make you shut them off. But here they think it's ok to blast a sensitive piece of life saving medical equipment with a high power beam of short radio waves at close range.. Good Thinking!
Yes of course. There has been people wanting the internet dead or under their control for a long time now. And now the will have their way. There are people out there that hate the internet as much as we love it.. They can't have citizens doing things without control and monitoring, that would give us all way too much power. It was nice while it lasted. I am packing my bags and going back to my pre-internet life..
P.S: Slashdot.. Better get that back door installed. Pronto.
"And we allowed all of this to happen by not standing up for our rights."
I am getting a little tired of drum-beating like this with no reasonable suggestions of how to do it in this situation, under our current system. Short of breaking out the guns and starting a revolt, OR Having a few extra million dollars to give to our congress critters to sway their vote. And if you say "you gotta vote for the right guy" I say bullshit. Once they are in, they do what the want, across party lines. I am starting to believe voting is like the open door-button on an elevator - (you know it does nothing right? (from an otis engineer)) but it's there to make you feel like your in control and you can do something. Politicians see corporate $$$ and the rest is history. They see the Internet a threat to their way of life because us %99 can collude with each other in private. That makes you a criminal. You (we) can't win in a rigged system that puts the needs and desires of it's citizens dead last.
"Ron Paul did as much as most people posting about it here on/. have done."
O really. We the people get to vote on this bill too? I did not know that because I thought the vote was on friday..
Shove your 'work' up your ass - don't want it. don't need it. Troll
sarcasm-on

As one wise man here on slashdot said not too long ago.
Computers copy things. Get over it, it's the nature of the beast.

Our pockets are not that deep.

I like real computers, not expensive pieces of electronic furniture.
"Suppose Nintendo's T&C says that you're not allowed to install Homebrew on your Wii, and that they sued you for it."
I am sure that they would.. Ala Sony.
After all you just bought it, we built it. It's more ours than yours.
Dam geeks with their wires...... Don't know their dam place in this life...
It is far easier to thread a camel through a needle, than for a rich man to enter the gates of Heaven.
