Why in blazes should people who don't have kids, or who responsibly make arrangements for them to be cared for (such as *gasp* having Mom stay home and actually raise them), have to pay in the form of a lower salary for yours?
Because *gasp* thats how public schools are funded....by tax payers who do and dont have children
Silverlight was not required. If you do not have Silverlight installed and go to watch a video, you are prompted to install Silverlight but there is a tiny little link that will let you proceed without installing.
Never worked tech support and answered "is that a forward slash or backward slash?" (with the meanings reversed) every time you give out a URL, huh?
I worked tech phone support for 3 years and still do IT work over the phone in varing capacities. Its really simple:
Forward slash: the one shared with a question mark Back slash: the one above the enter key
Seeing how all keyboards have both slashes, it doesnt really matter if its forward or back, the question would still arise.
You must have sold this crap to my works IT department. Let me tell you, with the problems they have with servers the last thing they needed was having a bunch of servers on one server. One VM server goes down and takes out 30 applications instead of 1.
I find very few help desks any more. Most have been turned into service or call routing desks. Heck, my work "help desk" even changed its name to a service desk. Of course the lack of english and basic comprehention has drove people to submit all requests via email/web.
In the case for users managing their own PCs, NASA used to be this way where I worked in the 90s. We ordered our own PCs, set them up, installed all software. The IT staff would help get us on the network and keep the network running. There were exceptionally few problems. This was, however, before most people had access to the internet, and predominantly before the web existed. Its not like setting up your own PC is rocket science or anything.......
In most cases, even yours, security and maintenance have access to everything. In my place of work, they have keys to every single door. Security needs to be able to open it, because, they are security. And maintenance needs to be able to open it because they have to access stuff in emergencies.
OMG and they're integrating group policy options to block sites! finally! that was impossible to do on a firewall! Actually, this is something to look out for. For example, your company firewall may block google.com on port 80, but if you company does not block SSH connections, you can easily bypass it.
Simply setup PuTTY to create a localhost tunnel and establish a SSH connection to an outside source. All of a sudden you can browse the web through the encrypted tunnel. If you need a little more help for apps that open various ports or need to resolve the DNS externally, throw in SSHProxy and you can force all ports/DNS queries to run through the SSH tunnel.
My Panera has tons of people that use it to conduct meetings, hog tables, etc. Of course there is usually a line out the door for people ordering food, so they aren't exactly hurting either.
What are you talking about? I have never opened a port or enabled UPnP for XBox Live, and I have had it since the day it came out. Heck, my work VPN, personall VPN, bit client and many other things work without opening any ports manually.
Funny, I have all my ports closed/UPnP disable yet Azereus downloads AND uploads without a problem. I used to open a port manually to help seeding, but I found the uploading has not been affected by leaving the ports closed.

*passes out from disbelief*
Don't forget about the 14 year olds on the women's gymnastics teams.

Exactly. The only time my WRT54G is rebooted is when the UPS battery runs out or when my kid unplugs it from the UPS.
After seeing them, I can't help but wonder; Gee, what's in the box?
It's the bomb that someone is senting up. After all, AYBABTU.
I work at the worlds largest pharmaceutical company. And Im talking NT boxes, not 400s or *nix

Yea, great stuff....
I thought you were going to elude to the fact of free OTA HD programming and our wonderful BT overlords, Mininova.
Silly me.
Windows 3.11 had chess.
Now, which to choose. 3.11 or Vista. The pro/cons seem to be even.
I find very few help desks any more. Most have been turned into service or call routing desks. Heck, my work "help desk" even changed its name to a service desk. Of course the lack of english and basic comprehention has drove people to submit all requests via email/web.
This one keeps coming back and gets more annoying every time. Kind of like the Vista advertisements.
*ducks*

Is it me or is the Apple Air more than fitting (with it's SSD)? /sarcasim

Wow, that MSDS is confusing.
For small spills you dilute with water. For large spills, you do not. The precautions state to NEVER add water.
So which is it?
But the post office does raise it's rates every 6 months and over charges for their service....
So you loose weight while you generate electricity!
You must have missed the epsiode of Atlantis where the blob of replicators was "suppose to take care of itself before it became a problem".
My Panera has tons of people that use it to conduct meetings, hog tables, etc. Of course there is usually a line out the door for people ordering food, so they aren't exactly hurting either.
I have no problems with Live what so ever and the network test passes fully. I don't have problems with bittorrents either.....

The more important question is, how do you have an unmeasured 'largest black hole'?
