Back in the old DOS days I wrote a little start up message for a computer illiterate friend that said "Press Any Key To Format Hard Drive" when it booted up. He wasn't amused.
I know we're supposed to be trashing Apple but can't we throw them a bone here? They came out with an SDK package within the year and within 15 months it looks like they'll be making a 3G. Rather than saying how unresponsive they are I have to say they seem to be listening to customers. Unbundling isn't going to happen for a few years not because they are being mean but they have a contract so expect unbundling once that contract is up. People have gotten really impatient. It's new product give it time. I'm sure they will address 90% of the issues people have brought up. The other 10% people will have to live with. It's an expensive product so don't expect open source and total freedom. If you need that there are other products out there so it's unproductive singling out Apple. People complain "because" it's an exceptional product and and they want more. If no one wanted one it'd be a non issue. A year later there's still nothing like it. I don't see Microsoft coming out with a microPhone to compete with it.
I use POD services for portfolios and presentation books. I can get a 40 page four color for $20 a copy with no minimums. They look decent and I can print what I need. There's an even bigger reason the service is mainly for wantabes, you can't make money off them. You can't compete with the high run publishers for price or quality. It's a handy service but I would never use POD for a retail business.
Yet another Evil Apple story. Some one has one serious ax to grind. Apple can't do anything right, I get the point. At this rate in a few months over half the stories will be Apple bashing. The claim always is that Slashdot is hard on Microsoft but the opposite is true. I read stories rationalizing Vista issues then see endless negative posts about Apple. I can't count the number of Mac or Apple products being more insecure stories yet in the wild the opposite is true. I guess there's no claim of fair and balanced reporting. It's pro Microsoft Geek site. I just wish there was some attempt to keep neutral.
Sorry it's worth the troll mod. Come on guys the Mac/Apple bashing articles are really getting silly. You might as well add it to the Slashdot logo, "We Love Microsoft and Hate All Things Apple." Honestly look at the numbers of articles pro and against each product line. Then check the postings. Say something pro Mac and you'll get shot down. Say something pointing out issues with PCs and you'll get Trolled. Yes go ahead and troll me but you're just killing the messenger and looking petty doing it.
is to clone spit so we might finally have a cure for dry mouth. The makers of Gatoraide have called this Frankenscience and tampering with the natural order of things. They've sponsored a bill called "Ban Dolly's Spit". "Where will it end" said a spokesman for the company? "Are we gonna clone sweat next?"
Hi there all this is the happy troll pointing out Slashdot already hates Apple. Don't believe me? Scan back over a few months of headlines and posts and you'll see the truth. It's like watching CNN moan about how the press is down on Hillary while they are running endless stories about Obama's dog groomer may be antisemetic. Slashdot defends Microsoft and attacks Apple. In other news the sun comes up even on cloudy days. Guess it's time to change my screen name to troll just so it matches the mod. Killing the messenger is another tradition at Slashdot.
We're getting ready to gear up a CG company in the Fall. In the short term we need 50 workstations and eventually we'll need a 100 just for the first phase. I'm unhappy with our CG software so I've been researching options. I had largely settled on one that is Windows only even though I like Mac after using it part time for a couple of years. Hearing that will will be forced to use Vista has made me rethink my choice. There's equally good options in Mac and there are just too many issues with Vista. We do game development as well and our game engine is Mac so it was a tough call sticking with Windows so this is more than enough to push me back to Mac. Between Mac and Linux we'll just need to keep a couple of PCs around and for now they'll all be XP machines. We have our current equipment and we'll pick up a couple of cutting edge systems before the end of the year and ride them until they die. Hopefully by then Microsoft will have a better option to Vista but we'll be 95% Mac/Linux by then and I doubt we'll switch back. No wonder Mac is now 14%. It'll pass 20% easy by next February and I see it hitting 25% before the dust settles. Microsoft may have finally broken it's own monopoly.
Billions wasted in Iraq and one of the most exciting programs since the Moon landing starts a slow death from budget cuts. Just plain sickening. We need a grass roots funding effort to save the Rovers since it looks like the second one will be cut next year.
It's commonplace for people that have had radioactive iodine tests to set off detectors in the tunnel connecting Manhattan. The equipment is very sensitive.
"Feed cat Plutonium pellets with kibble. Wrap cat in detcord. Place timer on cat and set for five minutes. Release mouse on crowded street. Release cat after mouse. Run. Remember to face Mecca at 4:29 after you release cat." "Oh, don't forget to plug ears."
If you want to appeal to the average working man wouldn't it make more sense to make it look like a bottle of beer?
Yes but to put it into perspective that still accounts for 60% of the GNP of Nigeria.
They're trying to appeal to an older half blind crowd. Just be thankful there isn't sound.
Maybe instead a Borg Bill should be portrayed as Pinocchio.
the tar and feathers wasn't a fashion statement?
would have been Vista Service Pack 2 will support 486 computers. Service Pack 3 will be backwardly compatible to 8086 machines.

In another three or four billion years when the Earth's core cools they'll be screwed just like the rest of us.

How do you get 44 patents on a black piece of slate?
A Vista spec machine in non Governmental hands!

All Apple products cause herpes.

Sound like a new video game.

And the ensuing localized global warming can melt a glacier at a 100 meters and drop a Bald Eagle at 10 meters.
Move to France. The future is now!

Yeah but when you install Vista Service Pack One it overwrites that code.
