I'm glad to see this option finally come around. You shouldn't have to buy a new copy of Windows just because you upgrade your hardware! I've run into this problem many times upgrading systems for friends and family (I cannot confirm or deny that I may have found a previously existing license to work around the issue)! I'm just curious why it took Microsoft so long to do this, they've never cared before. Why now I wonder?
Isn't this just an application of 'tokenizing' as it is used in compression of data streams? Build an index of unique(read non-repetitive) data segments and store the (smaller)index and resulting data?
This has been around for some time....hard to believe that this use has just come to light.
my putty vpn is working again for the first time in months! I know it won't last...temporarily anyway, I can sign into my home computer from work with no worries about my unencrypted vnc session being monitored by the network security folks.
Not that I do anything questionable while I'm accessing my home system from work, but it's nice not to have to worry about any possible misunderstandings in regard to content being accessed.
