Sure... hop onto the nice, fast, cozy, government-provided internet.
But it's not. The government is building the dark fiber which will be sold at wholesale prices to private ISP's. We don't have a public Telco any more.
And in exchange, accept ubiquitous monitoring and censorship.
What monitoring and censorship. Most Labor MP's don't want it and have openly said so. The Coalition will oppose it just because it's a Labor idea.
I would insist that it be just like phone lines:
But it is. Exactly like phone lines in Australia exist today except we wont be beholden to the whims of a single (now) private corporation with unrealistic pricing.
You'll notice not many people talk about actually using it.
I don't hear people talk about using the oven a lot, but I'm fairly certain that people use them on a regular basis.
Copy and paste is literally that basic that it is pretty much taken for granted. We've had it on every system for 20 years, there is no need to mention copy and paste, but seeing as you asked, I use copy on Android quite a bit, it accompanies multitasking quite well.
There actually is a distinction between "I'll buy anything they'll sell to me!" and "Welp I've had this for a while and just haven't realy needed it."
You missed out "I'm a fanboy so I can justify the omission of any functionality no matter how basic or useful it is" which is the most common justification I see used.
It's not like Apple didnt copy all of its products from:
Xerox.
Creative.
Open Source.
Microsoft (I guess this is circular, like a cycle of abuse except it's us getting abused).
Either there aren't too many 'Swypers' reading/. today or they're all having trouble 'swyping' on their non-phone keyboards. Either way this wins this week's "Sleepy Sunday Afternoon Story Award".
Quite a feat, considering it's Monday morning.
You see those of us who aren't iTards have known about swipe for quite some time as well as knowing about the swype beta. As seems to happen so often on Slashdot, this is not news.
while tens of thousands of other Thais demonstrate courage and a will for freedom.
And 500 Baht.
Yes, many of the protesters including assassinated leader "seh daeng" were paid. Thaksins lieutenants stood on the street in Khon Khean and many other cities in Issan giving 500 Baht and a red shirt to anyone who'd get on the bus to Bangkok.
As I suggested before try learning about a nation before shooting your mouth off. The true trouble makers in this are the rich Thai families who are manipulating the masses in a feudal war for power. As a constitutional monarch, the King of Thailand cannot make, propose or even vote on laws.
I get the impression you're American and don't know what it's like to have a leader who actually does good things. The King of Thailand has been the greatest force in educating the less fortunate Thai's. The wealthy families would rather have an uneducated, easily manipulate workforce (see slave labour). If anything the King is the complete opposite of what you describe, he has used his own wealth and influence to create better housing, education and medical facilities for all of Thailand (showing far more "character" then yourself, who will bash someone because of a baseless accusation).
But you've already made up your mind regardless of the facts as nothing I or anyone else has posted indicated that your erroneous post is even close to reality. So this is I guess a waste of time.
But I can do the same with SQLCMD by calling a SQL script I wrote previously using the tools SQL has built in.
Redundant and adds no new functionality (that means it's useless).
Give it 10 years, I could see this being how we work.
Wheres my 8 TB of storage in a phone form factor?
10 years ago I had disks with a max transfer rate of 133 Mbyte/s, the average Australian had a WAN transfer speed of 64 Kbit/s (the vast majority still had dial up). Today my SATA2 disks have a max transfer rate of 3 GByte/s, while the average Australian has a WAN transfer speed of 1.5 Mbit/s. SATA3 arrived in 2008 with 6 Gbyte/s, Fibre networks with a transfer rate of 2 Mbit/s cost A$400 a month here. Australia is one of the better nations in the world for Internet access. Local storage is not going anywhere.
There is also the need for more and more powerful computers. Whilst most people don't use 8 GB of RAM and a Quad Core proc they do use Dual Core and 2 GB of RAM and the requirements keep rising.
Dont forget the Windows hegemony, that alone will ensure your vision does not come to pass.
90% of the people in my office cannot work on a laptop because they simply aren't powerful enough for GIS applications and Software development. We'd lose 40 man hours from just 10 staff per week in compiling and processing time alone. Whilst laptops are increasing in power, so are desktops and at the same or greater rate. Desktops aren't going anywhere because the "cloud" simply cant handle the workload.
Apparently had the treatment been in her blood stream it would probably have been ok, the shot straight to the kidneys was a totally new thing. In other words someone didn't know what they where doing and screwed up.
Yes, the biggest reason we don't have extensive stem cell treatments is because we haven't finished studying them. Forget the religious loonies, they'd oppose breathing if someone said it defied the word of god, the real danger is 1. we do not fully understand the effects and 2. the people performing the procedure were not experts in it and there is little if any oversight into these clinics.
Number 2 is a big danger with Medical Tourism. Most people go to Thailand to get a nose or boob job, for the most part these work out well at a fraction of the cost of the same procedure in the west but if the doctor does screw up and you end up as a hideous freak (OK, more of a hideous freak) then you have no recourse. The family of the victim in this case will not see a damned thing, not compensation and not justice*. No western doctor wanting to keep their license would recommend medical tourism for life threatening illnesses (even though some will arrange it if explicitly asked, this happens a lot with cosmetic medical tourism).
* in Thailand there is a saying amongst expats, "if you're farang(foreign), you're wrong" the Thai side will always be taken over the foreigners.
that's like me saying "maybe he was absolutely, undoubtedly wrong".
There, fixed that for you. You cant change the position of the operator (maybe in this case) and maintain the same meaning. This way it makes more sense and conveys the original meaning. "Almost 'certainly killed' her" means you are slightly unsure that this definately killed her.
If you think PS rips off Bash, then you haven't used one or the other. There are a bunch of things I *don't* like about PS (and actually I don't really use it, but I don't do sysadmin stuff either), but the object piping is awesome.
You've just invalidated your own point. I'm normally a sarcastic bastard when people do this but I've just had breakfast so I'll go easy on you.
I do use PS and BASH on a daily basis, I am a Linux and Exch 2007 sysadmin so I need to have an understanding of Powershell and BASH (PS is required for Exch 07). PS is trying to be a CLI for a GUI only environment the same as BASH is a CLI for a CLI environment. Both are meant to handle sysamin task and enable scripting. PS is trying to be BASH by centralising all admin and conf tasks, but PS fails because between different programs the syntax and commands are inconsistent and it's overly convoluted. Further more, PS is useless for MS SQL, realistically I only use PS to call SQLCMD.
Also on Server2008, PS is not installed by default. This is a major screw up if you're really trying to introduce a CLI.
I'm currently in the Philippines, breakfast here has a high chance of bricking in my digestive system.
- Firearm (I know... but were you in Katrina after the floods. and if you were, were you in the neighborhoods I was in? Hunger can be a deadly force)
Good suggestion, really, really, really stupid reason.
If you're ever lost in the bush (yes tourists, when in Australia you can get lost easily, you could drive for 6 hours at 100 KM/h and not encounter anything) a firearm is a very good method of getting attention, which is what you want when people are looking for you.
But once again, you should feel ashamed at how stupid that reason was.
- Cash
- Jewelery
Very stupid suggestion, you have no need for valuables what so ever in a survival situation. Swap for water, food, flares, hand held radio radio (one or two way), first aid kit, batteries, matches, lighter, petrol or other combustibles.
I pity whoever gets stuck on a desert island with you.
The funny thing is that you're phrasing that like it's a correction even though it's really supportive of my point.
What colour is the sky in your world.
I cant imagine how you can picture using a file manager to delete a file as difficult, obtuse or obscure? It's not like thats the standard way of deleting files since the GUI was created.
But what's to stop a criminal from possessing guns?
The fact that they are hard to get.
In Australia, gang wars are fought with knives, bottles and clubs. This means if a gang fight breaks out right next to me I need only take a few steps to the side to be perfectly safe.
The old "teh criminals will have guns" argument is as bad as the "think of teh children" argument as both end up being based on unrealistic assumptions.
In fact, my goal would be to leave as big of a mess as possible. If I hate the world enough to take my own life I don't see any reason to do it any favors by taking my life in a clean and orderly fashion;)
Maybe clean and orderly is just a British thing.
As a great man said, it's better to burn out then fade away.:)
Except Internet filters and having your laptop searched for porn by customs.
You (the US) have that too.
If you can make up a fictional web filter then so can I. Also the Australian Customs Service is backpedaling the laptop searches so fast I'm going to have to check into Perth Customs before I leave Malaysia. Unlike the US's TSA who still have no accountability.
What happens when a strong king leaves a weak heir.
I don't think the crown prince is all that weak but he'll be thrown head first into a pit of Thai (political) Cobra's. You have to be Hercules combined with chuck Norris just to survive that I'd say. If people (Thaksin) are willing to burn parts of Bangkok before the king is dead, it will likely get a lot worse when he does die.
those of us who weren't assholes and showed them and their culture respect).
For the record, despite my yank bashing I like meeting Americans abroad (and in my own country) as most of you I meet are great people.
In context, the GP was being facetious and I was being sarcastic. Laugh, it was funny.
BTW, this is being pushed by the office of Prime Minister Abisit, not the King. The two entities are completely different and the King cant get a word in sideways (especially as he currently has trouble getting out of bed, poor bloke). The office of the PM holds power in Thailand, the king is someone for the people to love.
Oddly, most of the sites I come across that are blocked are porn sites,
I'm assuming you're not Thai.
If you really need pron, you can get it from a DVD vendor for less then US$2 (if you're a bad haggler). Also you can hire an actual lady* for less then US$40.
* save the transgender jokes/. if you cant tell beforehand you have bigger problems.
This is also about trying to draw supporters to the government by saying, "look, we support the king" despite what HRH has to say about Thailand's leste majesty laws (HINT: He openly doesn't support them).
But it's not. The government is building the dark fiber which will be sold at wholesale prices to private ISP's. We don't have a public Telco any more.

You're missing two digits...
And you're wrong.
The $1099 is so expensive there is plenty of room for profitable clones. I've literally seen hundreds lined up in a stall in Bangkok.
Quite a feat, considering it's Monday morning.

and they still didn't manage to do that properly.

By "go down into the cellar" you mean either mount the SD card and delete the files or install a file browser and delete the files.
None.
UK police cut down on red tape so Slashdot posts the most inflammatory headline possible using a group that no-one in the UK takes seriously.

No.
In Thai the correct connotation for that is "jack wow" or "chuck wow" depending on your accent. It means to "fly (your own) kite".
Hit the nail on the head.
