... but Dell has to at least start the initiative.
My guess is that all Linux laptops will be offered with lowest configuration (512 MB, 40 GB HDD, cd-rom etc.,) and will cost like hell when you try to customize each component. This way they can keep MS happy because no one will prefer the linux laptop.
The other reason why only advanced users will buy it is that the default installation of all distros don't even play DVD movies.. WHAAAAT ?? I get a PC and i can't play my DVDs ?? Users don't want to care about apt-get or whatever to get may be a new xine-lib or dvdcss whatever. Linux is very customizable and will only confuse beginners.
I'm a Opera user and i keep wondering why do ppl adamently use a software which keeps crashing and yet they find a reason to either bash it (IE) or support it (FF fanboys) saying there is such and such workarounds. Why don't ppl switch to the browser with fewest bugs/security holes. Don't give me the crap by saying IE has lot of users so the attackers target IE. While it may be true, a common security analyser like Secunia.com has identified fewest bugs in Opera compared to FF and IE..... and yet the slashdot crowd is so much in love with FF. and look at the comments above from FF fanboys, they just keep writing suggestions and saying how it is not a flaw. If the posting had IE instead of FF, we would've seen hundreds of posts scolding IE and Bill.
Creative Zen's scroll upside down is more intuitive and you don't have to rotate hands. if you drag your finger upside down, the list will scroll down and vice versa. Also, if you scroll down and hold touching the sensor, the list will scroll faster and you don't have to move your finger except to stop scrolling. I find Zen's scroll more intuitive and easier to use.
http://secunia.com/product/4227/?task=statistics reports that firefox 1.x has 36 advisories (3% of them is extremely critical)
Opera 8 has only 15 advisories (0% extremely critical)
Opera 9 has only 2 one high and one moderate.
So shut your mouth as it is the safest and fastest browser on earth.
man it sucks,
google video - just a gray space instead of the player
youtube - video stalls frequently as 'BeeBeard' said above.
msdewey - plays for 2 seconds and then nothing happens (i waited for 2 mins now)
sony trailers - works (??!!)
The mozilla plugin for linux (v7) used to work well with Opera. Too bad Macromedia did a better job than Adobe ! I'm going back to the previous version....

.... MS Zune will also let you stream viruses to upto 4 Zunes at a time. If the receiver doesn't accept the virus, a chair will come out flying through the screen.
I'm sorry. but why is my post (above) marked as troll? I've been a slashdot reader for a while, but haven't posted a lot of comments. Please clarify. The headline is truly wrong. It *is* VMware. check out http://www.vmware.com/
"As one of the security measures in Vista, Microsoft is adding a mechanism to block unsigned driver software to run on the 64-bit version of the operating system. However, Rutkowska found a way to bypass the shield and get her code to run. Malicious drivers could pose a serious threat because they run at a low level in the operating system, security experts have said."
I have been using a Symbian phone for the past 3 years. It's been a great phone with all the free/commercial applications available on-line. I could install either symbian based apps or java apps (which is always slow). I owned a Moto Razr and didn't like the firmware one bit. It sucked! I just threw the razr away and kept using my old symbian phone. This is why I'm afraid what Moto is going to do with Linux.
Symbian gives true multitasking with a taskbar so that i can switch between applications. Does your current mobile phone do that?
An upgrade to Windows is ready to be installed.
Microsoft recommends installing Vista. This free upgrade for genuine windows customers offeres improvements such as:
* (Bloated) New UI
* Highly (in)secure re-designed kernel
* Force Users to upgrade hardware. ok this is not an improvement.
* WGA
* Automatic update
If MS makes money out of their security products - ppl say they are anti-competitive
If MS makes their security products free - ppl say they are using their OS monopoly to kill the (windows specific) security companies.
Solution: Fix the holes in OS instead of offering spyware/anti-virus tools for free/money.

Talk about hypocrisy.
Why is Firefox 2.0 slower than Opera in spite of having lesser features ? Will you change this in FF 3.0 or will it become worse ?
I want to know if the browser plugin will work well with Opera/FF. Any one tried yet ?
