Here's another. Ford develops the technology you propose, but they have a billions dollar factory and trained workforce geared towards making cars like they always have. As long as they own the technology it doesn't threaten their current business model.
What if I develop the technology? Should I make the world a better place with longer lasting cars or sell it for millions... There is no conspiracy necessary. They make cars a certain way, if I develop a way to grow them in vats from seeds Ford is definitely going to want to buy it and they will likely shelve it because they already have prior investments for making them the same way they did yesterday.
If they had cameras and credit cards in the 1700's a certain group of people could have been tracked and detained for treason and probably tax evasion.
I had a problem with this netopia card I gave to a friend along with the old laptop that 'just worked' with Dapper. At some point he had to have XP for one of those bargain bin games and the network card wouldn't work anymore. The manafacturer's website didn't have drivers for discontinued devices.. Although it was a wpc11 card under the hood, drivers like for the Linksys wpc11 and others wouldn't recognize it. I tried digging through the.inf files and adding the pcid of the netopia to the list of supported devices and/or telling it to install 'other devices' (a trick that used to work with older versions)... Nothing helped.
Considering how many of the people in the states of New York and Washinton have their health care paid for by the state, typically the elderly and infirm who are receiving expensive treatments for the effects of trans-fats and smoking, these bans seem to be a justified cost-saving measure to me.
Yeah, but we all have to die sometime. How does extending the lifespan do any more than make this the problem of the next administration. It would appear to save a lot of money in the short term while compounding the issue 20 years from now...? Or is it cheaper to die of natural causes (considering the amortized nickle and dime health costs over the span of gained years living).
It's the age old argument of - steak and beer while you can take care of yourself or a lifetime of gruel and water so you live long enough for state funded convalescent homes.... actually, I imagine that 30 years from now I will probably think I regret not eating salad my whole life, but not having suffered the fate personally these will hardly be objective regrets. And besides, the basis for the banning of unhealthy diet seems to be cost, yet it likely costs more to support cheaper procedures (than cancer, heart surgery,...) for much longer lifespans, only to have the inevieatable heart failure, cancer,... anyways. So it's really not much of an argument, they should base the curbing of free will on reality, not short term financial relief.
It's like state seatbelt and motorcycle helmet laws; it's not the state saying "These things are good for you" so much as "Ambulance rides are expensive and our emergency rooms are full."
Seatbelts..... this one really irritates me. I think we pay more than enough taxes to provide ambulance rides and stuff, we pay a lot of taxes actually. You don't see drastic measures to cut back on ineffective military campaigns or drug wars but you'd better not expect cheese from the government. The worst part about the seatbelt laws is they promote illegal search and seizure - you can be pulled over and have your papers checked just because an officer doesn't think you were wearing a seatbelt but it's ok to go around without a helmet or fire extinguisher in your vehicle. It's also taxation without representation. The rationale for the law and resulting fines are based on cost to the administration so rather than raise taxes, they simply fine people. Supposedly it is a sort of selective taxation scheme, fair to those wearing their seatbelts, but discriminatory towards those not wearing a seatbelt while driving along not having a wreck. I think they just want to declare open season on civil liberties in general. Pull over everyone over at will, set the stage for fining these people if the officer spies transfats in their car.
Why is it so ok to split hairs over every benefit that directly applies to the populous but money is no object when it comes to funding and manning enforcement to crack down on said benefits. I'm going to NY to become a smoking enforcer, I'll have my own skyscraper full of beaurocrats, german shepherds, and state of the art water misting devices to annoy my victims before I fine them and ask them to empty their pockets, show me some ID,...
Capitalism is sort of a religion, everybody treads the mill hoping that one day someone will notice what a hard worker they are and promote them. Predictably, you are rewarded with more work, and your motivator is instead compensated for a wonderful job.
Don't talk shit about capitalism though or the wealthy will tear into you about the day or two they had to actually do something and broke a sweat. You'll never hear the end of it.
I've seen a lizard leap onto a pane of glass and scurry up - almost gave up the hunt but I didn't want it freaking me out in the middle of the night. They're as sticky as that protective film that people never remove from the plastic faceplates on radios/and/ they change colors, formidable pests. If only we could crack the secrets of lizard technology.. Cars that run on flies with tires that could adhere to any surface...
His userid is really 5 and I can barely frag him with teht fancy rig and apartment selected for it's proximity to the tournament server.
Up to his nefarious tricks, he once again uses the absolute value of reverse psychology to propogate this rumor of a 'contrived testamonial' to ensure that everyone sees through the killernic gimmick and doesn't compete on a level playing field with him. If he actually had any skillz, he'd be dangerous.
This guy is why they invented the deagle.
I thought for sure there would be some real adultery enforcement here in SC where the blue laws reign supreme (other than divorce financial leverage, political fallout). I don't see shit either, but still find it difficult to believe a court hasn't tried fining someone into oblivion. The stores are terrified of selling alcohol on Sundays, citing thousands in fines and revocation of their liscense. Ohwell, my bad.
While you're over there, be sure to take their poll on exiling blacks. What a freakshow, how is this link to their adultery enforcement in any way authorative?
I've worked in places with video cameras and I agree that you can 'forget' they exist, but it doesn't make them go away.
I could understand how this technology could be good and useful in the hands of a benevolent big brother... I think what the concern for most ppl is what happens when you go to war with Eurasia indefinitely and cannot effectively skip work to go see for yourself without getting red flagged for doing something out of the routine.
I was reading an article describing the UK traffic cameras as being attached to a database(2 year storage). Some ppl don't seem overly concerned that all of these millions of cameras can be monitored effectively, but databases excel at this sort of thing. Operators need only monitor streams of 'interesting' video. Consider toll routes that you may subscribe to and recieve an rfid passport, if you miss a toll and do not leave the highway within a certain timeframe you and your respective cameras can be flagged 'motorist in limbo' and reviewed to determine if an accident or car trouble has delayed your signature from - theoretically. I don't know what they do with the database information, but as long as the system is in place and becomes accepted and embraced, then you can upgrade for maximum potential. That's when it will be a problem.
No, the real difference is the amount of capacitance. I wonder what a 100uf ceramic disc cap would look like, a frisbee?

Nobodies safe anymore, not XP, not Linux.

that's what is called a defacto standard otherwise known as a necessary evil.
old apps running on today's hardware, with emulation, are usually faster than the real thing...

Maybe the hydrogen can keep us from getting the bends.
Fuck taking off combat boots to step in on some dirt floor, might as well have a custom of checking your guns at the door too.
Hey this fake cola tastes just like cola! Almost as if it came of the same assembly line....
hehe, sweet.
Except in HD on a big ol plasma screen...
Clear Channel is going to be able to buy something new and ruin it.
And don't forget how everytime you use your iStuff it makes someone in Tiawan smile.
What about a 3 ghz multicore intel 4004?

don't forget the broadband router.
In the winter it won't cost you a thing, you will run the heat less to compensate.
