No one adds the $6.5B per month we are paying in Iraq when computing the true cost of defending our access to the oil we are addicted to
I see this a LOT. The fact is, we import more oil from Russia, Algeria, and Nigeria than we do from Iraq. About 4% of our oil comes from Iraq. We use less than 25% of the oil that Iraq exports. Percentage-wise, the EU imports nearly twice as much Iraqi oil as the US.
Maybe we should just hand the bill to the EU for protecting their oil supplies... Oh, that's right. They had no problem violating UN resolutions and international law with the whole oil-for-food scandal...
I am opposed to any detention based on anything BUT fact. That means that before you arrest the guy, you had better made DAMN certain that it is the correct one!
So here's the question: you are unsure what the device is. You ask the person and they refuse to answer. How can you be damn sure you're correct? Do you just say "well OK then" and walk away? Or do you arrest the person and figure it out later...
I am a patriot (and in fact, worked on that missle system, even). What you advocate is the tyranny of anarchy, where the rights of the individual trump the rights of society. I'm sorry, but we THE PEOPLE means more than YOU the INDIVIDUAL.
Except no one's giving up ANY RIGHTS here. You walk in to a controlled area, wearing unique and unidentifiable electronics parts, and refuse to answer a casual question, then the authorities - who are in charge of that area - have the right to question you. Its not an unreasonable search.
After determining she wasn't a threat, she was released. No illegal detention.
I take it that you vehemently oppose the police looking for suspects based upon physical descriptions, too?
Dude, are you on crack? Airport != South Beach runway with anorexic supermodels
DUH! Of course you don't bomb runways with anorexic supermodels... All the model has to do is turn sideways and the explosion completely moves them. Worthless targets...
I'd suggest talking to a police officer some time... Drawing a weapon accomplishes many things, including capturing the attention of the suspect, and serving as a visual warning to bystanders to get the heck away from the area. Both of which are wise actions in the case of a suicide bomber.
From TFA: 2) She walked inside to an information counter and then walked out again... she was nowhere near "security".
Yeah, because we all know that blowing up a bomb at the load/unload zone of an airport and killing dozens is so much less of a bad thing than blowing it up at the security gate and killing dozens...
I actually work in the CE market, and this is patently false. The tools to make the tools are made in the US and the EU. They're shipped to China to use, where we train their tooling engineers, and send over the IGES files of what the tool is to look like.
Tooling design, and machine design, is still the near-exclusive baliwick of the US and the EU. Additionally, we heavily out-produce China, the EU, and any other country.
Anyone decrying the state of US manufacturing really needs to look at the realities. We do not have a problem with building things here; in fact, most of the prototypes, first-runs, and even first-assembly lines are made here. Then we export the design or the line to a country where workers are a lot cheaper. Seems like we still have the know-how and ability to execute right here.
That's my view from the actual day-to-day trenches of the CE market.
I'd also suggest your map is woefully misleading. Please see the latest results of Greenland for just a single indicator. On average, Greenland has ADDED 5.4 cm PER YEAR of ice over the last decade. Given your map leads one to inger that Greenland is melting when in fact reality is the exact opposite, I'd question the accuracy of the rest of the map.
Or like here in Washington with people registered at mailboxes or public buildings (illegal), multiple registrations by the same person (also illegal when more than one are voted), or like the 1800+ illegal registrations signed up by ACORN a few months ago...
Scrub the roles. Force EVERYONE to re-register - that way it's "fair". And demand proof of citizenship and identity. First get the registration roles right and then we can talk about the boxes.
It's the security and accuracy of the voter roles that count. Until those are scrubbed and kept clean, the actual vote is considerably less important...
At least some sites here are "unreachable". One site I have was with a low-cost host who shares an IP for about 20 websites at a time. Middle last week, suddenly that site was unreachable from here in China. So With $20 plopped down, it now has a static dedicated IP. And is now reachable from China. I could get it with a proxy, but for my Chinese clients that was too much bother.
The great firewall does exist, but it's more of a really tall speed bump, than a wall.
Thank your local Democrat machine for your treatment; Fulton County - which includes Atlanta - voted 60% for Kerry/Edwards, compared to 40% for Bush/Cheney. My experience has been that the more Republican the state the more people tend to just keep their mouths shut if they're not sure. When I'm in the US in my home in Washington, it's quite fashionable to pretty much bash anyone that's not of the "expected" mold. Physical or political.
Personally, I find I'm much more welcomed and treated with respect here in Shanghai than amongst most places in Seattle, WA...
It's called Free Republic, it's been around since 1997 (5 years before DailyKOS), has nearly 3 times the monthly visitors (around 1 million unique people per month, versus 350K for dKOS), and is kind of the central "clearing house" for all threads/blogs Conservative.
The fact that FreeRupublic gets zero press, as compared to DailyKOS, is pretty telling about the media's awareness of the Conservative movement...
Dude, this is/. - if it's not available via the Internet in any format I want for free, it's an infringement of my rights!
2) Go to a friends house. You do have friends right?
Dude, this is/. - don't have to be a sarcastic ass. Of course I have friends - jmkillbot07, Whippygirl, Slamster16, we chat all the time online. Of course, going to their house is out of the question because we've never met in meatspace...
3) Go out to a public place that has Heroes on their TV.
Dude, this is/. - that would mean I'd have to actually shower, get my mom to do some laundry, and run the risk of instant sunburn because my skin's been in the basement under fluorescents for 6 months.
4) Wait to buy the DVD's.
Dude, this is/. - if I can't get everything I want for free, just because it can be put into some format that can be downloaded, then it's an infringement on my basic human rights! Right up there with the right to life, Cheetos, and Duke Nukem Forever...
Uh, nevermind...

We already do it. Superfund is funded by a special tax levied on petroleum and chemical companies.

Then what is it?
Better to guess wrong like this case 1,000 times than miss the other way once.
OK, so could this circuit be used for a bomb? Now, can you make that determination in 3 seconds?
DUH! Of course you don't bomb runways with anorexic supermodels... All the model has to do is turn sideways and the explosion completely moves them. Worthless targets...

Lose a few thousand more micrograms, and my BMI will be PERFECT!

Got a few fun toys at the Shanghai Gun Club... My .40 is in the US, though.

It was all relative, anyway...
You forgot to carry the 1.
