These machines are not netbooks, but full notebooks
That is, full 2.5Kg + bulky AC font and cord, notebooks.
I never bought a notebook for that reason. To me, the point of a notebook is that you can carry it with you anywhere if you want, but they're too bulky for that, not to mention the battery life makes it impossible to do any real work away from the grid.
I was an early buyer of the Eee701, and I love it. I will only buy a notebook when I'm done with desktops and the notebook will be my main machine. This day will be the day id Software stop making games. (Since Quake 1, I always buy a new machine when id release a new engine.)
I always thought HAM radio was the obvious tool for guerrilla communication.
All your points are valid, but the most important one is the independence from the centralized (read: government/corporations controlled) infrastructure.
The required technology is also way more simple to master (DIYish), giving you further freedom.
The point of being slower is certainly a set-back for multimedia, but text-based communication certainly covers most basic needs.
"Functional programming" has NOTHING to do with the existence of functions in your program.
That would be "strucutred programming", what K&R was doing.
Functional programming is A LOT more high-level. C just a much easier way (than assembly) to organize your code in functions and data structures, plus a library to access basics of the system (libc).
The Zombie Bay would be more apropriate?
Face the new reality.
Information wants to be free.

Just checked it now, and it was removed.
Now that there's nothing to spoil: when you zoomed close enough, it showed the moon surface made of cheese.
How could you talk about 3D gravity games and don't mention cave9?
Yes, it takes a lot of work to organize all that porn.
it's the only way to be sure
That, and digital video output (ex DVI).
Speak for yourself. I'm not a toady!
Go, swine flu, go!
online services won't merely supplement your TV viewing or newspaper reading, but will replace those activities altogether.
Will replace?
For me, at least, it has replaced already.
Many years have passed since I bought my last newspaper, and I only watch TV for live football games.
So, he is comparing the natural (genetic) evolution with our intellectual (externally carried information) evolution.
Then, we could compare the stages:
speech <==> multi-cellular organisms
writing <==> central nervous system
printing <==> dry-land vertebrades
internet <==> ???
What's next?
the human condition seems to provide us with incredible potential in a diverse set of skills
I, for instance, am able to produce incredible sounds with my armpits.
AAAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggg....</falling>
Yes, but how many football stadiums is that?
Point taken.
And you think they're in to compete in the warez scene?
They're buying the brand.
This phrase doesn't even make much sense.
What OS have to do with pirated software?
They have not sold the fight, just the name.
I hope.
That's because knowing the number of characters in a password greatly eases the password guessing.
The masking is indeed a bad idea. Your unix login prompt does the right thing.

No, what you need is a sane programming language/technique.
The odds of me writing this exact reply, at this exact moment, are astronomically low.
Yet I did it.
