    Many other countries have paid the cost to. Just the global increase in the cost of oil has cost other countries dearly. All of western civilisation has come and is coming closer to being destroyed. Which is exactly what Bin Laden said he set out to do. He has not exactly needed to do much in the last few years. The US government has reacted in such a way as they might just as well have been his paid agents.

    Because the reactors successfully shut down (stopped reacting) before the tsunami even got there. The tsunami interrupted the post shutdown cooling because it was a power driven (not a passive) cooling system.

    You are right. I do not like Microsoft. For very good and forty year old reasons. I've made nothing up. I have been acquainted with the fact (if it is) that VSE is now free. You can keep it. I retired a decade ago and most certainly don't want it. I did not make stuff up. Read my original comment. "That I know of" was what I said. So absolutely nothing I said was false.

    If you call that a development environment. Last time I used a MS environment I had to pay for it and they obsoleted it in six months. I didn't go back. So keep your hostility to yourself please.

    No. I don't think so. Asleep I might agree with. Apple is the only commercial system I know of with which I get a free development environment just as I have on the BSDs (and Linux if I bothered with it). I even get one for the iPhone and iPad too.

    I don't find it that good on OS X anymore either. It is annoying when I sync my iPhone and the movie I am watching freezes for up to several minutes. I went Apple (from FreeBSD) when Apple brought out Tiger. Was all good for a while but I'm thinking of moving back.

    Remember that the life of these batteries is limited by the amount of charge passing through them. Thus it isn't just the few hours less usability it is that the battery itself will have a shorter usable lifetime and have to be replaced much, much earlier.

    It is not just inconvenience, it is a major financial cost. New batteries are not cheap.

    What is this doing on slashdot? How many slashdotters know less than three scripting languages? Wouldn't be many. I have never seen and article so full of fail.

    But if you want an everyman's answer there may be no choice but to pay for the data. My bank makes 7 years available on line, it has to to compete with other banks. Trouble is it is not an American bank.

    No. They have no conclusion on consistency. Only that (they say) it is not caused by 'neutron flux'. However their study does not seem to do even that as there has been no defined mechanic. WIthout a hypothesised mechanic then not test is of much value as it only eliminates one possible mechanism.

    No, it isn't that bad. There are responsibilities all along the road. SOmeone fucked up. The way it works is that the innocent purchasers are protected, they keep the purchase and the innocent original owner is compensated for its value. But that is the verdict of last resort. Pain, aggravation, suffering they are a separate civil suit which would be close to guaranteed a win.

    But this is only if every other remedy and argument has failed. It is a last ditch attempt to discomfort as few innocent as possible. It was a choice made after other systems failed.

    Correct. If they are found not to have acted in full accord with their responsibilities they will have to fork out the full value of the property. But the sale will not be cancelled. A civil suit would follow to cover pin and anguish.

    Ya wot? Nothing to see here. Nothing with much accuracy anyway. We do have a system used for resolving identification but it is not particularly onerous. It does mean you cannot have phone, credit card or bank account without having a real name or identity attached to it. That is all it means.

    You don't need to hack an email account to do this. There is a flaw in the laws handling property registry.

    Horsehockey, This sort of thing has happened many times before in this country. The problem happens because once it hits the registry the registry cannot legally be altered. So if the buyer acted in good faith it is up to the (accidental) seller to recover the funds from the crook. It doesn't happen often because most people are aware of it.
