Legal polyamory presents a problem,. There are financial benefits t being in a partnership and other legal issues to boot. You will wind up with singles and small families subsidising the larger families who already have economies of scale. The only way this could work in a fair society is if marriage and partnership mean nothing and grant no special privileges.

Almost all the non violent people I know are atheists. Almost all the religious people I know have an 'interest' in one side of one war or another. Most of them would support the death penalty in one form or another. It is 'spiritual armour' that allows people witness the suffering of others and to kill without conscience. You see the same thing in non-religious psychopaths. They cannot be convinced they are wrong.

"You cannot prove there is to god" is no reason for believing in one. It is not even entirely correct for while you cannot prove that no god exists you can most certainly prove that a specific god does not exist. Atheists shy away from that far too much. Fear of those "non-violent" religious people is probably the reason why.

A religious belief is one that is not subject to reason. Since we live in a world that functions, always, in a reasonable manner perhaps there is always a form of contra-spiritual tension that religious people must endure. Some find delusional ways to deal with it. But for the most, that tension is easily triggered to violence by those that they consider out groups.

Are you really trying the 'No true Scottsman' fallacy with Communism? They didn't do communism right?

Not quite. Note the bit about North Korea and democracy. What I am saying is that pretty much all government nominal framework doesn't matter that much when you are under a dictator. Nominal democracy or nominal democracy. Stalin and Kim, both autocrats running an autocracy, both dictators running dictatorships. One was "communist" and one is "democratic" but no real practical meaningful difference between them.

As to the scotsman fallacy, it is more that I see both Communism and Democracy as two different (and maybe not incompatible) Ideals. Ideals cannot be seriously implemented as they will always fuck up simply because they are ideals and not practical. Communism can't be done right, democracy can't be done right, anarchy can't be done right, christianity can't be done right, buddhism can't be done right, capitalism can't be done right. No ideal can be done right because they are ideals and not practical. Ideals are just memes, very important memes but just memes.

What we seem to have in actuality is a set of rules (that include rules for changing the rules) that may or may not tend towards particular ideals/memes. The United States are not a democracy but a republic which takes democracy, equality and fairness as its major memes (well, maybe not equality so much). All we can have is a flawed representation of an ideal. That's not bad, it just means we have to be aware and error correct our societies. Preferably within the rules.

I hope that is not too annoying.

  11. Ermm, no. I wear it overnight. I put it on charge while am getting up in the morning. By the time I am dressed and I put it on it is usually at about 98% charged. If I waited until after breakfast it would always be fully charged but I don't feel the need. Over a few days it drops a bit and when I have closed my activity rings for the day I top it up to full. The battery is tiny sure enough but that means it is very fast to charge. Currently I find it eminently practical. Maybe if the battery degrades I will not find it so.

It does not seem to use much power when I am asleep either. It seems most of the power consumption occurs when you are active. It does seem to increase the power consumption of my iPhone just a little though.

I'm not that concerned with battery degradation though as while all my other iDevices are generations old (and working just fine) I will likely replace the watch as soon as the next model is out because of the extra sensors and software planned. Have you seen the heart trials being done in conjunction with a US educational institution with the current (series 3) sensors?

As I said, I originally bought the watch for not very strong reasons but after using one for a few months I have found much advantage to having one. Of course many other non-Apple devices could do the same but because I already have an iPhone (6+ with no current inclination to upgrade) it is the best smartwatch for me to have. I would recommend one to any elderly person particularly as they provide a one on one person setup over the Internet (or store) as part of the purchase price.

  12. I cannot see the point of your post unless you are maintaining that I am either lying or exaggerating. Neither is the case. There is more information but your post is hardly likely to make me explain in detail. I am not particularly sick although old and a bit debilitated, But that s not relevant. It could (and does) happen to people in the peak of their health.

What I reported was factually accurate. If you want to call it 'trolling' there is nothing stopping you but I do not see why you do so. If it were a (successful) troll there would have been lots of people attacking the post not just you. It is just that for me it is a bit ironic that the killer app for me was saving my life. If you doubt me, why should I care about some one that misquotes me (talk about trolling)?

  15. Re: Comparing Trump to Stalin is utter foolishness on UFO Existence 'Proven Beyond Reasonable Doubt', Says Former Head of Pentagon Alien Program (newsweek.com) · · Score: 0

Authoritarians are possible for left and right. Stalin was left because of his social views, and authoritarian because of how those views were enforced. Hitler was (mostly) authoritarian-right.

I disagree. Stalin espoused communist views but his repeated behaviour was autocratic not communistic. Kim espouses that he is a democrat but he acts like and has the power of an autocrat just the same as Stalin. If you want to call Stalin's USSR a communist state then you have to allow that North Korea is a democracy. I do not accept either as legitimate.

The opposite of Authoritarian is Anarchist, or a complete lack of enforced order. You can also have Anarchists on both the left and right, again, based on their social worldviews.

So, and anarchist who insists that no one else is allowed to organise is what? Anarchist or Authoritarian? Opposites have to be exclusive or they cannot be opposites or part of a dichotomy as you propose.

Also look at your phrase "enforced order". What does it mean? Enforced by a gun? Enforced by public support? What? I have lived in two countries where even the cops did not carry more than a nightstick and did not need to. So, you might just want to have a think about what "enforce" means because it is highly lightly that we have a different opinion on what "enforce" should mean.

Libertarians are often moderate anarchy-leaning right, while "classic liberals" are Laissez-faire moderate left.

I would be interested in where you place the founders on the political scale.

Educate yourself. You sound childish and ignorant.

I think experienced might be more accurate. Talk to the older of some of those educators. If you listen they might be able to give you some perspective.

If I sounded petulant it is because I am sick of false dichotomies raised and used as arguments and abuse. Since when did 'liberal' become an insult? People who do that repudiate the founding fathers and all the USA stood for.

I bought mine (an Apple series 3) pretty much for retail therapy (being stupid is ok, if you are aware of and compensate for it) and there may be no killer app. But there is a lifesaving one. My watch woke me up when I was running a high fever (heartbeat too high). Doctor told me that if I had not called an ambulance when I did I would have not made it through the night.
