    El Reg has been covering Phorm and its existing and planned abuses for some time:

    unfortunately one of the Phorm directors is also in tight with the UK gov in an internet policy group

    and they have been hard to dislodge over there, although Brussels (EU) has also taken notice

    so far, they seem to have been treated with suspicion and hostility over here in the USA by everyone AFAICT, which is probably a good thing

    I've also used it to find tennis courts when on vacation and things like that. Tennis courts are pretty easy to spot, unfortunately they're locked half the time and you can't determine that from the satellite (Maybe with Street view?)

    They use it at Foothill College Los Altos CA where where I am a somewhat permanent student

    I have taken dozens of online classes and it seems to have worked well for a variety of classes and teaching styles

    I too love the MD421, but I can only afford 1 -so it gets used for Kick, Bass and Male vocals -I hear the European MD419 is nearly as nice but a little cheaper.

    a great step up from the SM57 is the Beta57A which can be had for ~$120 and sounds considerably better than the redoubtable 57

    Given the fact that much of the AT is remote wilderness cell coverage is probably pretty spotty

    unfortunately satellite phones are a little too expensive as they would be a better alternative

    But here is the $45,000 question -will they count the sales of those machines as Vista sales, or Windows 7 sales -probably both....

    I just know that they didn't take into account all the 'downgrades' to XP when counting Vista sales...not that it helped much considering Vista's DOA status.

    Well, they probably don't want to go to the WTO (assuming that the Feds would even let them for reasons of jurisdiction)

    Because the WTO has already ruled in Antigua's favor as to the legality of offshore internet gambling:

    I wonder how many of the clueless will complain to microsoft that the removal tool removed software THEY HAD PAID FOR

    iirc some of the malware and adware 'vendors' had eulas that forbade users to remove their programs

    It'll never happen, but I'd like to see one of those guys try to sue microsoft for violating their EULA -would microsoft try to claim that the EULA was invalid?....

    One can always dream.

    thumb drives is the popular name for usb sticks

    I still think of drives as a rotating media, but it seems the term will transfer to new media thanks to SSHDs and so forth

    Sony's memory sticks lost out when the thumbdrives hit 1GB and got real cheap and were further undermined by the widespread adoption of flash by cell and camera manufacturers -plus I'm not sure they were adopted by many 3rd parties

    That's not the point -relevant pop culture deals with stuff happening NOW.

    'I like ike' and 'tippecanoe and tyler too' were relevant in their time -not now.

    Now its about bling, blogs and obama

    if you limit yourself to 50 year old culture references you are missing leet-geek-speak, hiphop/drug culture, simpsons (which is mostly culture references itself) and anything else that has been in the public consciousness for the past 40 years

    not that missing some of the above would necessarily be a bad thing...but that's current pop culture.

    sorry, but that's stupid -how many pop culture references from 1923 are relevant to TODAY's pop culture:

    seeya snookums, me and the squeeze are the bees knees in our raccoon coats, we're gonna get jazzed up in our hupmobile on hootch and go check out Mary Astor's horse after we hit the blind pig.

    I agree its unfortunate that this stuff is non free, but pre 1923 means that most talkies would be out of bounds as well -including stuff you can see on tv all the time.

    yeah it supports printing locally -just a screenshot, but other than the UI that's the only local interaction

    user profile/preferences are saved back on the server, but we may implement a local save for some data some time down the road

    when it first came out I bought Vista64 so I could dual boot with the Suse10-64bit version that I had installed on an Athlon64 so I could fiddle with running oracle 10i on a 64-bit platforms
    (I was pretty bleeding edge in those days)

    It worked for a few months, but now Vista 64 just randomly reboots on that machine and goes into bluescreen recovery menu after that, so I haven't even tried booting into it for the last few months -guess I should try to reinstall it. Never had any problems with the SUSE side (except getting Oracle 10i installed, but that's another story)

    However, this may be more a problem with installing Vista on a homebrew machine as opposed to getting it OEM'd (haven't had any trouble with my HP Vista laptop)

    the best CS teacher I have ever had was an Indian woman who also worked in the industry

    she was a UNIX goddess and I took 3 classes from her including shell scripting -she was smart and well-spoken

    I also took about 3 years of Oracle from an Asian woman who was also pretty good

    If you are going to endorse a candidate... at least announce the fact and let your viewers/listeners/readers know about that fact before they get the news from you. The major news outlets don't do this, in spite of their rather blatant and obvious bias.

    Reading UK Newspapers (mostly the Observer) when I lived there in the 70's and even today reading the Economist I am struck by the strange combination of the presence of acknowledged editorial bias accompanied with an even handed presentation and analysis of opposing views. (Note: n/a to the Sun and other shallow crap)

    -In contrast, the US news claims not to editorialize while slanting the actual 'facts' being reported or ignoring stories which do not fit the worldview they are selling.

    I think this is equally bad whether the view being sold is liberal OR conservative.
