Perhaps it is possible to get 4K support on the PC albeit in the most unlikely of places.
Our main TV watching area has a PS3 and an HTPC. The HTPC came because we wanted a no compromise experience when it comes to what we wanted to watch online. We quickly realized that the PC got the shaft when it came to Netflix as well as other online sources. For the most part everything we consumed in the browser would get no 5.1 sound, a bummer, and you'll notice that many titles when viewed in the PS3 get "SuperHD", and low and behold anything streamed a PC browser wouldn't get such love.
Now the surprise, way back one of the HTPCs was updated Windows 8 (lets leave that one be), and it struct me, hey I wonder if the Windows App store has a dedicated Netflix App, and if it would get either 5.1 sound or SuperHD. Go through the rigmarole of logging getting it installed and what do ya know, 5.1 sound, AND "SuperHD" titles Yeah!
The funny thing, there was and continues to be zero documentation on this; does the Windows Netflix app also support 4K? Don't know, don't have a 4K display. That being it sure as hell is worth a try. As we know, 5.1 sound and SuperHD support, normally the something only appliances can do; is possible on a pc, maybe 4K is too. If you try it and it does support it, let us know : )

The Supreme Court in Canada affirms Hill's libel judgment against CoST. The ruling reads, in part:
"Scientology continued its attack against Casey Hill throughout the trial of this action, both in the presence of the jury and in its absence. More than once, it reiterated the libel even though it knew that these allegations were false....
"In summary, every aspect of this case demonstrates the very real and persistent malice of Scientology....
"Scientology's behavior throughout can only be characterized as recklessly high-handed, supremely arrogant and contumacious. There seems to have been a continuing conscious effort on Scientology's part to intensify and perpetuate its attack on Casey Hill without any regard for the truth of its allegations....
"There can be no doubt that the conduct of Scientology in the publication of the injurious false statement pertaining to its 'enemy' was malicious. Its publication was carefully planned and carried out in a manner which ensured its widest possible dissemination in the most damaging manner imaginable.... Scientology's actions from the time of publication, throughout the trial, and after the trial decision was rendered constituted a continuing attempt at character assassination by means of a statement which it knew to be false. It was such outrageous conduct that it cried out for the imposition of punitive damages.
Scientology finally pays Casey Hill, including interest. Seven of the ten existing Scientology organizations in Ontario are subsequently closed.
Seriously though, about 10 years ago one of my first jobs was working in a small local pc shop where I encountered *many* PCs that 1. The moment you opened it it was like breathing in a 1000 butted out butches at once, and 2. There being so much smoke residue in the crease where the side panel met the case that it had actually dripped down the inside of the panel. You remember those kinds of things, vividly, and you're kinda of even more shocked when you're like "really!? another one!?"
So yeah, I was really surprised too; and hey maybe they are smoking a couple of packs a day in a closed room with their comps; but I encountered enough of them to know that its not like it didn't happen, or was really that out of the ordinary.
Side note; yes I was a smoker for a number of years, I *loved* smoking, but what smoking can do to a computer/any electronic device should not only void a warranty but is disgusting.
My wife and I got off cable TV almost a year ago. When I called to cancel and was asked why, I told them if they offered a pay per use model, where I could rent/purchase a box that would allow me to pay for a specific episodes of a TV or a specific movie without being tied to a regular "Heres every tv show on planet earth timeshifted 50 ways till sunday plan" *I would *happily* do so, hell id even watch it with the commercials. Fact of the matter is, they want to offer programing their way, and only their way.
As the parent stated, in Canada, we dont get, Netflix, Hulu or anything through PSN; we also dont get Roku, Vudu , Amazon unbox, access to NBCs, or ABCs offering of internet TV. It's like the freaken stoneage here when it comes to watching TV online. Apple tv is offered here but the selection stinks, bell had a store for a while that had drm up the wahzooo that promptly shutdown, and watching shows on the global or CTV websites is *horrible*. So after looking around I chose to go with a ps3, a box built from spare parts that resides in the basement, torrents and mediatomb. Works like a charm. Watch what I want, when I want.
The only "sad" part is, I would gladly pay for a service that offered a decent selection in a pay per use model; in Canada however it appears no one wants my money.
Someone with enough screen real estate to justify the purchase...
Last Christmas my Dad treated himself (and the family) to a 50inch Panasonic Plasma (they keep their sets for 10years+ this is going to be around a while). Although the DVD's look good, I was surprised myself when I compared them to the HDTV broadcasts we could watch at 1080i on cable, the solid state media is simply put to shame. Which shouldn't be the case. HD-DVD's and Blueray are meat to fill this void. Yeah compare anything in HD, to a regular broacast, on a *20inch* screen, and no doubt from a normal viewing distance the differences are minute at best. Jack that up to 50inches+ and differences are readily apparent. So for me, the decision of buying a high def player is going to depend on when I purchase a tv that would acutally do it justice.
Or, like my last DVD player, when I can get one for free when I sign up for a new credit card

Heres a good contrast between a high quality build and results you get from such, and a VERY poor quality build:
The Good
vs
The Very Bad
My personal favorite is when they compare one to the "showgirl" that everyone knows... lol
