I disagree. Reasonable DRM is a serial key or a passcode (printed on the label or cover) that you have to enter in order to use the product. Sure, it's easy to write down the code when you're making a copy for a friend, but the code is very traceable (nowadays with internet purchases). This does NOT limit your user experience, you can make backups and copies as much as you like and as long as you don't mass-distribute anything that you shouldn't, nobody will com after you.
Anything more is too much.
PS: I have a strong dislike of DRM in any form, but saying there is no reasonable option is a bit excessive IMO.

No emergency, no breaking the law. The same (and the other way around) goes for regular people in my opinion. If there's a true emergency (passenger heart attack, etc), you shouldn't be fined for speeding to the nearest hospital.

And yes, even a group that makes (or made) good music still needs to see their JOB as doing BUSINESS and they need to set some boundaries.
It's just a shame that the few hurt individuals got so much media attention and only their side was reported since it would damage a popular entity (which tends to be the case in most western media nowadays anyway).

If there are enough people in your town that want a broadband connection, they'll get together and cough up the dough to get it there. It WILL be more expensive than the same or better quality connection in a big city, but hey, that's basic supply and demand.
Now, if there AREN'T enough people that want the connection or they don't think it's worth the money, the goverment should NOT pay for it instead. If the government pays for it, that means that the rest of the country pays for it. Which means that everybody will be worse off, except for your small town, which has (appparently) no economical gain from the new connection. If there would be an economical gain, the people would have been able to pay for the connection themselves.
Socialism and Capitalism IS a one or the other choice. As soon as you have a bit of socialism, capitalism will begin to fail in that area and people in associated areas demand for more socialism (read: freebies / handouts). Socialism cannot coexist with Capitalism.
As for your gangs of thugs, a certain level of police control and a small judiciary system to settle disputes is always necessary and this requires a small tax on all people to pay for it. In the most extreme case, even this can be left to the free market, where companies can provide security for a neighbourhood or city and where an arbiter can be hired to settle a dispute. This exists at the moment on a small scale (private detectives, building security, divorce attorneys). However, the government has a monopoly on these services, providing them for 'free' and even banning private endeavours.
Centuries of indoctrination have made us fear a world without government. There is nothing to fear, unless you're one of those people that does NOT want to work for a living and wants to live off the efforts of others.

What you are missing here is that there is usually a right way and a wrong way to practice. I think that what is called 'innate talent' is actually mostly 'the ability to recognize your weaknesses and the interest/willpower to improve them' in some field.

What you're assuming here is that the.xxx domain would be MANDATORY for all porn sites. This is a false assumption. There are guidelines for.net,.com,.org etc domain names as well, but there is a huge overlap between them and there are a lot of domains under the 'wrong' TLD.
The.xxx TLD would make it easier for someone that wants to SELL porn to advertise this. The easy filtering of a.xxx domain is just a side-effect as most porn-hosts will also have a number of alternative.com domains.
If you think your artistic works or even your vacation photographs qualify as porn and you want it to be clear to anyone that might inadvertently wander onto your site, a.xxx domain would make it easy and clear. It would mean no more 'are you 18+?' screens / popups / scripts (which everyone answers with YES even if they're not;) ) since the entire.xxx should fall under this category.
If you don't think your work would benefit from being on a.xxx domain, then you don't have to put it there! The US government will want to enforce this relocation, but they shouldn't get away with that.
The argument about conservatives and reactionaries is what's wrong with the current power-distribution in the world. Somehow most governments (and one of the worst in this case is the US) consists of a staggering majority of uptight religious fanatics that fail to see that their views belong in the dark ages. They want to deny joy to the rest of the world because they are too scared to re-evaluate their own beliefs and since people refuse to oppose their power they get away with it.
