True, but this guy is more of a dissenter than a hater. The sad truth is that this is a legitimate concern.

If for some reason blacks are more likely to commit crimes, there's probably a sociological explanation behind it. Maybe we should focusing more on making the world better so bad guys will appear less often rather than "fighting-crime."

That's amazing, I can't believe I never knew that. I don't want to claim that America is bastillon of freedom but she's given me a lot and in the right circumstances I'm willing to die for her. I mean yea we have crime and poor people like every country, and we also have our fair share of brainwashed masses; but there seems to be a pretty fair amount of social mobility. Most of us have it made in the shade. I can see how foreigners think we're idiots though. In defense of the red, white, and blue I'd say that the mistake they would be making in thinking that would be that most of us are just ignorant, not idiots.

History does. I'm not touching where this could go with a thirty foot stick, but thanks for letting me clarify before reaming me for that one. I'm not one of history's great linguists :)

This is true. If it became the trend to be actively involved in politics for even just a short period of time this would probably when change would be most likely to happen most. When it comes down to it though I think it would be impossible to not be ignorant in the grand scheme of things. So why call Bush an idiot? I have no idea whom I'm responding to in all these posts, I just kind of think of y'all as the collective /.

Not to say that many of his actions aren't viewed by myself as "idiotic," but the fact remains that we don't get the security briefs that guy gets on his desk every morning. Ever stopped to think that there's something going on behind the scenes that we don't have the security clearance to know about which might be influencing his actions? I'm sure people flipped out when Lincoln declared martial law but now we look back on it fondly. This is not martial law by any means but what I'm saying is the man deserves a little more respect than that just for rising to the office he's in regardless of who he knows and how much money he has.

It's not our duty whatsoever. That would a involve declaring war on China. Only a REAL idiot would declare war on China.

These people? Way to generalize. Not everybody within the States is ignorant of these things either. We have many people, most of whom are idiots... just like every other country. Occasionally our government may go haywire are start pulling some shit; but whose government hasn't yet that's been around more than a century? Personally I think you can detect the growing resentment towards the frivolous attitude our President and his administration (not to mention the lawmaking side of things...) has taken towards our civil rights (and liberties, they ARE different) as reflected in his 38% approval rating. I didn't vote for him, but if he stays in office any longer than his prescribed term I'll be ready to throw down in arms, even in the face of a machine that emulates walking into a 500 degree oven.

If only I could mod this... I go to Oberlin College, let's not forget the liberal bias in practically all the professors, everywhere if I'm to understand it correctly. True, the earlier statement that actually doing research inevitably leads to being liberal might have some truth in it, but for god's sakes people think for yourselves! The liberals are simply the lesser of two evils, and not always right.

  11. Apple and Windows on Run Windows Applications Natively in OS X? · · Score: 1

It seems to me that both sides of this argument make some decent points. If I were to translate everything into what I read in my head it would transcribe like this: Cringley: "Obviously Apple is up to something involving Windows." /. : "What could they possibly be up to, eh?"

  12. concerts are no fun anymore anyway on Music Downloads = Expensive Concerts? · · Score: 1

I just quit going to large concerts. Anytime I try to go to a concert in Columbus I can't fart without seeing a cop and immediately getting arrested. When I don't get arrested, if I'm not in on lawn I have to walk 5 miles to smoke a cigarette. One time this prompted me and a friend to drive to Virginia to see a concert, where it was a little better, though not by much. Apparently one used to be able to have fun at concerts...
