    you need to speak to the developers that changed their programs to use the systemd hooks and get them to make it optional so then you can install and run any other init system and they won't be dependent on systemd.

    I'm sure some elder statesman of the Unix world would ask "Why would you ever want a GUI on a UNIX system? " Things change and move on and not to everyone's satisfaction. As the majority of users are probably desktop/laptop users, they wouldn't care a jot if the files are binary or ascii. Anyway I think the export of binary to ascii is a text file config option if you want both at the same time and it can also be done via a specific tool.

    There are a lot of "if's" when discussing the merits of any software. e.g. if your system is hacked and they rewrite your ascii log files to hide their hack , how are you to know?

    Webkit works on Linux machines as well, Konqueror gives you the choice of Webkit or KHTML

    Certainly takes up more land but here in the UK we have farmers who still raise sheep on the solar panel farms, the sheep couldn't care less about them as long as they can eat. I'm sure it must be the same else where in the world.
