    Inevitable. After a business grows over certain size, it starts to assert its will over the market and society, instead of obliging with the wishes of the market. At this stage, the business is not a social group that is conducting business in a market anymore, but a feudal kingdom of its own self with power and clout. Inevitably, like most self-interest oriented social organizations that acquire power, they use that power to assert their own will.

    gaming was not immune to this. internet, may make it immune in future.

    what dx10 brings over dx9, is only water shading in certain circumstances. (beaches, lakesides). the difference wouldnt be noticeable in many gaming environments unfortunately, and they are noticeable in crysis because it passes in an island. not to mention that hacking the game makes it play with dx10 standards, ironically, under dx9, with all the bells and whistles dx10 would bring ...

    im tech savvy, i play heavy-graphics games, i make my living from programming. yet, the pc in front of me is running windows xp.

    why ?

    because it works, i can do everything i need to do with it, and i dont need anything more.

    lets admit it - leave aside the needs of everyday users, the current computer power and o/s power has gone above what even hardcore gamers need, a while ago. there is no need to upgrade, other than being coerced, forced into upgrading by tricks like microsoft pulled with dx10 getting locked into vista. and if it is forced as such, people will find a way to have what they are locked out of ...

    let me see ... a country in which private interests can buy any law they want through the power of money, even if it contradicts popular vote. a country in which, private interests can force their agenda through other means, by harassment and intimidation through legal system - because the more money, the more justice one has in that system -, or, using the administration's other branches by lobbying to them, against the will of the public.

    a country in which, this practice is taken to extreme as far to repress basic individual human and free speech rights. and everything being made appear legal and proper through usage of lobbying, bought laws, and administrations, all of which violate basic human rights and even the country's constitution depending on their agenda.

    and ????? what they were expecting in return ? obedience ? daisies ? boundless love ?

    there is a limit where people can be pushed. after that point, shit hits the fan.

    all of those countries belong to the same bloc in the west, which is controlled by u.s.. the very channels which acta is being pushed over, has the control to the means which control those satellite countries too. the only exception being eu parliament. eu parl is an exception, because, european parties used to send their overly idealistic, 'troublemaking' members there to keep them away from home turf. eu parl gained authority right in the middle of term, and the results naturally been a surprise. next election term, the parties which are generally us puppets are going to pay attention to who they are sending to eu parl.
