    No, your lap won't get hotter, as more heat will be sucked from laptop. This means you will be able to use your laptop as hair dryer. (More heat taken from cpu, radiator will be hotter).

    Show him how he can solve some simple problems for school, so he can later try to solve some more complicated problems. I have started this way when I was 12.

    Lucida sans typewriter (or lucida console on windows) looks good enough for me on lcd. The best font for coding, IMHO (YMMV)

    I've used PHP/MYSQL to make some financial reporting web application which behaved very much like excel. I think it was still better than it would be in c++ (but in php it was about 1000 times slower, which I managed to get only 100 times slower after massive optimizations).

    I wrote C++ code 20 years ago that still runs today and I'm confident that it will still compile and run 20 years from now.
    Funny thing, I tried to use some c++ code, but after one day and correcting about 300 errors (about 20 different TYPES of errors) I gave up and scraped the code (this was Object-Oriented RayTracer from Nicholas Wilt).

    DRM is like "No, you can't have our files, you may view this if you pay (but we can revoke your rights any time we want)"
    I don't know itunes, but this is probably "you can view these files only on APPLE ipod, not other players. If you lose your files, you should have made backup (oh, you can't? hahaha!)"

    Native code for what? You would need to write native code for all supported platforms versus java code for all platforms.

    But they are still better than current generation of raytracing accelerators for pc (mainly because the latter don't exist yet).

    Please read "Permutation city". Very good book, better than matrix IMHO. And it directly mentions raytracing.
