    NVIDIA Comments on Ray Tracing and Rasterization Debate

    Ray tracing may be the future of rendering--it's definitely part of the future at least. There is an old joke that goes "Ray tracing is the technology of the future and it always will be!". I don't think that's completely true, but I do believe that ray tracing is not the answer--it's part of an answer. Furthermore, I believe that the C/C++ language programming interfaces for GPU computing are useful for programming ray tracing to run on GPUs. Over time, I expect the graphics APIs will evolve to embrace ray tracing as part of the 3D graphics "bag of tricks" for making images.
    And it's not like they are against raytracing, they are acquiring RayScale, raytracing startup. So probably nvidia will use raytracing with rasterisation, IMHO the best approach.

    POV ray also supports bicubic patches, which you can use to approximate NURBS. It's like tesselation, but output is still mathematically precise. Plus bicubic patches are a LOT easier to intersect than nurbs. You can also make human body this way without triangles.

    And now imagine a beowulf cluster of those! I'm actually working on it, Amazon EC2 is going to really rock for some advertisers. Imagine walking through newly designed casino, with all visual details. Only thing required would be laptop with internet connection sufficient for hdtv stream. Heck, you could even send small video to iphone. Imagine realtime raytracing on beowulf cluster with output to your iphone...

    It's so obvious after OpenSSL problems. You make random data, but "forget" to seed the generator. Or seed it with some value which should be time, but is in fact known value.

    Poor design happens everywhere. I have once optimised query to mysql from 10min to 5sec just by adding indexes :/

    Spreadsheets are to real programs what FPGAs are to APICs. They are still usable in many fields.

    Yup, it will be pretty standard setup for another several years. Many people will have windows to run those old proprietary programs (and will pay through the nose)

    What they are answering now, comes from a culture that is very, very, very smart. Old. Intelligent.
    Yeah, especially after cultural revolution (1966-76), when they effectively removed scientists from public life and science never quite reborn after this. Very smart indeed.

    - Hooray, now everyone will be less obnoxious!
    - Yeah, it will be easier now to obey those "no calling" in theaters. It was such a pain to remember to turn of phone.

    The fabric is waterproof and durable, so you can just wash it in car wash. It's polyurethane-coated Lycra.

    Yep, for me the biggest downturn of joomla is mess. If you are not REALLY careful and experienced, you end with page tree better described as voronoi graph. I prefer typo3, most types of pages can be created in about half an hour if you start with html templates from designer.

    Tbe question is rather why there's so little work overall (or so it claims, I don't have enough knowledge to say) since the competition is basicly non-existant.

    Changing fabric on this car takes two hours. I think they can make it faster, it is just first concept. If fabric gets dirty, you can take it to washing machine, and put another in meantime.

    And what with bad paid-for tools? If your management bought tools which are still usnusable, but paid for them, you would have no problem? The problem here is with management, not free software.
