Don't reply to the AC's, they are automated AI drones spouting canned comments from a database to waste your time and forum space. They are 2nd generation spam.
For the same reason we should care about what Christians believe - cause they are delusional and accepting irrational belief as "ok" is bad for all of us in the long run.
Their belief in charity and community are just a ticking time bomb. I heard the other day they were giving out free food and clothing to the poor! This must be stopped.
What is rational? The American definition of rational is vastly different than what is proposed in your comment. Maybe we are using a higher level of thinking, not a lower level.
The American Revolution was fought over pennies. No one died. Irrational! Maybe the whole American Revolution was a bad idea.
By this "such little lost" logic we should not have entered WWII because so few died at Pearl Harbor, or fought the Civil War.
We fight based on principles of fairness and freedom. When this is threatened, America responds. We stand by our word. We don't watch idly while people try to destroy our way of life to impose a backwards religious "Fatwa". If you want to do that, move to France or Denmark. Just don't make any drawings of Mohammad.
You might be afraid of these cowards, but don't project your fear onto those you disagree with in an effort to infantilize them and therefore justify your point of view to yourself. Check your assumptions first.
I know I am speaking for a few on here. I pissed off far more Paulistinians though, I'm sure. But like digg, this site suffers severely from tyranny by the majority over the minority.
These disorders (ASP, ADD) may be connected with the medication that parents from USA give to their childern (i.e., Ritalin, etc.). These disorders are very uncommon in South America and the rest of the world. ASP (Awareness during Sleep Paralysis) has nothing to do with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). And where do you get these stats? ASP is pretty uncommon period.
Also, ASP is not a disorder but an event. It is basically becoming conscious while simultaneously maintaining a sleep stage, and also having the ability to recall said event (the most important factor).
Lucid Dreaming and OBE's (I call them OBD's Out of body dreams) is closely related to this and has actually been practiced by Buddhist monks for centuries. Its all about knowing how to maintain awareness through different stages of sleep.
Awareness during these stages of consciousness are amazing experiences when you learn what you can do.
But don't let facts like these get in the way of bashing the USA. That usually brings good karma here on slashdot.
I have been able to have these Awareness during Sleep Paralysis (which then after a while often spawn Out of Body Dreams), since I can remember. As a test when I was a teenager I shuffled a deck of cards and put five random ones in an open box on top of a high cabinet. Every time I checked when I was in these OBD's I wasnt even close to observing what was actually there, but it sure felt like I was right up until I physiacally checked!
Since then I have been skeptical of so called OBE's and alien visitations/abductions.
with their Tang and freeze-dried space food. I wouldn't want them in my neighborhood, or even my country either. Let them stay in space if its so special and wonderful out there.
Thats great, you're improving already! The first stage is denial and you just totally moved on through that to the acceptance stage. In the end we can say you made this condition your bitch. Good luck and Godspeed.
I used to work on a missile simulation toolkit for the Army that targeted Windows and Linux and a few other minor platforms.
Simulating the targeting of Windows and Linux Platforms with missiles might be a bit overkill even for a MS Studio Developer.
This common "tingle" everyone is referring to is because there is a small (1-10 nF I believe) bleeder cap between neutral and device ground. Since neutral is not exactly ground because it is a current return, or the plug may be in backwards (there is a polarity) this bleeder cap will pass enough current to feel a tingle.
"GUI interfaces are easier for input (no switches to remember, easy to navigate, etc.) Command lines are easier to schedule and include in custom batch scripts Command lines allow input prior to the program loading
Both have their place.
The big problem I have is that most administrators* that rely on the command line (in particular DBA's using SQL*Plus) don't help themselves out and manually enter that string of commands instead of batching them up or writing a GUI to simplify their normal tasks. (* administrators that I have personally encountered, your experience my be different).

You forgot one major thing. Command line programs also have versatility that gui programs can never have. Think of all the things you can do with dd, netcat, ssh, used in combo with can take stdin/stdout. With one line I can do things like search pdfs or MS Docs for a string and have them print the matching line or send it to a file. I could stream MP3s or soundcard in/ouput from one box to another, incrementally backup/mirror a directory offsite, etc.
This versatility is why we love our command line based utilities and why I think excessive use of MS Windows stifles innovation and creativity. GUI only programs must have all possibilities thought-out for a program ahead of time. Because of these reasons and others, it seems to me that nearly every program should take command line switches and handle stdin/stout appropriately. Guis are great for simple mindless tasks, but the commandline unleashes creativity.
"How is he gonna do that exactly when the Executive Branch is limited to signing bills into law that were passed by Congress and Congress is filled with people of both parties owned by media outfits?
The President doesn't get to write laws. All he can do is try and sway public opinion towards him and hope that encourages Congress to act on his agenda."
Sorry, this is Slashdot, where sensationalism matters more than the truth, thats why your score is lower than his. That and you said something negative about Ron Paul by implying he is not the solution to the worlds problems.
If the LP's sound better than the CD's its most likely because they were mastered incorrectly. LP's have a maximum theoretical dynanimic range of around 75dB, and realistically its more like 65dB compared to 96dB on a CD due to the physical size limits on the groove. Improper mastering techniques such as those stated in the "loudness war" are probably the culprit.
And thats why Mexico is the great success it is today. We should really try to be more like them and other horribly corrupt regimes where you can't even trust the cops.
Why does everything have to be one extreme or the other? Maybe there is a happy medium and maybe the success of the US is at least partially due to being in the middle.
Then throw in the pervasive anti-American sentiment that continues to grow all around the world, and well, we Canadians don't look so bad anymore. We're far from perfect, we still have dirty dirty politicians and high tax rates, but to many people we're seen as a much lesser evil than our southern neighbors. I'm going to get flamed for this, but you guys need to start working to clear your name. Maybe a decade ago, the USA was a land of riches, I even contemplated relocating for a development job... then Dubya showed up and changed everything around. Not since Truman has there been a worse hated US president around the world. People are afraid of the USA. We see how badly their own citizens are treated, I can't even imagine how bad it is for immigrants.
As Canada grows economically and maybe one day has to stand up for itself, they will be hated too. At least they don't have to worry about having a backbone because 1. The US will always be here and have Canada's back. 2. Canadians are so afraid of upsetting someone, they won't take sides in much of anything.
-1 Said something positive about the US -1 insult to non-US country
I always thought the silly American lefties felt self-hate and guilt-ridden just for having the luck to live in America. This guy hates himself for being born a human too, because according to the above post, he thinks cats would make far better people than us humans.
Or maybe he's really a cat pushing a liberal feline agenda and wants the obviously left-wing cat population to have the right to vote.
I guess we'll never know since on Slashdot the two are indistinguishable.
I read the whole thing, and I saw that the earth is not quite absorbing all man's CO2, but what you're missing is the point that this information is buried deep, not in the link, but in all the global warming propaganda out there. If you don't believe me try to find it from a source that is not anti-global warming. I believe it is masked because it doesn't fit the sensationalist agenda and difficult to explain to the average person. When some scientists bury facts like this it is damaging to all, and shows a lack of objectivity.
I agree with you that something needs to be done to mans pollution footprint, I just believe that mans effect has been exaggerated because sensationalism and drama is a revenue generator and can be a source of political and social power. This is not abnormal and happens with many non-scientific issues as well, and it makes me sick.
Isn't the percentage of CO2 that man produces like 1/20th that of the earths? I searched the other day for hours trying to find out what the ratio was. Here is a page from the DOE: http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/1605/gg97rpt/chap1.htm l
Sure man plays a part in this CO2 equation, and we need to change our ways, but it seems to me like the Chicken Littles have really tried to hide this "inconvenient fact" because it doesn't fit their agenda or might "confuse" the overzealous enviromentalist cheerleaders who need to be spoon fed their thoughts.
Your response is moral equivalence gone awry. How is boycotting a company or banning gay marriage like blowing up everyone, even your own people, because someone disagrees with you? Millions have been slaughtered in the past few years in the name of Islam, like in Indonesia, Darfur, etc. Many Islamic countries cut off their womens genitals, beat them, and don't allow them to even go outside without a man under their Isalmic laws. They kill women if they are even suspected of adultery. Christians really are tolerant given that they put up with crap like being compared with Islam because they boycott a company or want to keep an important institution like marriage from being perverted worse than it already is. Sure the Southern Baptists are judgemental and do some stupid shit, but all they want is for people in this country to have strong families, to work hard, and try to get along with each other. They may go off the deep end from time to time, but they are also very charitable people, giving to feed the hungry, house the poor, and help people in the community who goof up their lives get back on their feet.
Islam's problem is that they focus on hating dissenters and not on building a better society. When was the last medical miracle that came from a Muslim country? Where is their space program? Where are their universities and brilliant researchers. Aren't there over a billion of them? I am sure they are smart and intelligent people that are missing their chance to contribute to society because they focus all their energy and wits on hating each other and everyone else.
So are you saying that we should show tolerance to the intolerant(modern day Muslims) AND intolerance to the tolerant(modern day Christians) and this is not hypocritical? Yeah thats what gets +5 Insightful on Slashdot. If the Muslims, get pissed they can deal with like the rest of us have learned to. Stop treating them like fucking kids.
I don't know if Knoppix sees ADS's, but thats wat I use to scan Windows Boxes.
I like to use HijackThis (Windows exe file) to quicly find ADS and other rootkit nastiness.

Well I've been a matlab and octave user for 10 years and I think I used the matlab GUI once, but its so much slower than vim that I ditched it.
Octave needs a gui like python or bash does.
