Not true, The ISP I work for offers a wireless connection to last mile customers.
Towns of 300 - 400 people is what we mostly aim at, and We offer decent speeds at least.
Anyways, I used to work for a satellite based ISP, and it just doesn't cut it quite the same. I know we can do a 20 mile link with 20mbps throughput and recover the cost within 6 months if we have 20 customers.
The big companies aren't even worried about the customers or trying to recover money, they just don't care to take ANY time to spread broadband to rural areas. Its too much of a pain for them.
of changing their operating system, most people I know who are not computer savvy think that windows is a hardware part of the machine (seriously!).
To them, changing OS's would be like changing engines in a car (too many car analogies but hey:P )
Anyways, I have a XUbuntu box running on an 800mhz with 256 ram, and I can browse, chat, and watch a movie with no lack of response whatsoever....
I think the biggest problem in desktop linux is the windowing systems, perhaps if the distros would auto-detect or ask what speed your computer is and installed a WM that was fitted to the task, noone would have a problem with linux.
That and we need to educate people and let them know that windows is no different from any other software on their computer (also that pushing buttons will NOT "break" the hardware hehehe).
have a table that stores commonly used long words, hide this in the compressed file, and then reference it with a checkTable bit then the byte (or 2 bytes) to the table element, or DontCheckTable bit and it just uses a normal compression scheme?
You could even then compress the whole thing again and have a reference table that points to common references or something:P
Do it like eve-online? They have a built in system where people can buy GMT's (or game time codes that are for a month or 2 or 3 of play.) and sell them in the game. This allows people to "sell" their "moneys" in the game and CCP (eve's makers) still get money out of it. To me it seems like the best way to handle things./me shrugs.
Maybe the high end executives could take a pay/benefit cut and save the company a couple million a year, and push their fabs into 65 or 45nm process, which would save them money on silicon and improve chip yields, also allowing them to push down their prices a bit.
I know atm I can buy a 3800+x2 at wholesale for 75 bucks, which is a STEAL! If AMD could push more chips at the same or lower prices due to higher yield they could probably edge back in a bit.
They really need to get barcelona out though, and especially if they can get down to 45nm that will make the pricing much better looking than intels atm.
Thats what openmosix is for, just install the patch over the regular linux kernel, turn on autodiscover, and you have a whole bunch o thick clients running code for anything else that has openmosix installed, yay for insta-clusters
I'm pretty sure that most of the caves on our planet were formed by underground rivers, and rivers that had dried up long time ago after the iceage / flooding / dinosaurs or whatnot....
So does this mean that there is water on mars for sure? Maybe all of the water activity is just below the surface, because all the rest evaporated off, and the rivers continue to flow, forming new caves!
What I never understood is why these people who haven't downloaded any music don't countersue for libel/slander and stressful damages etc etc, like those people who sue mickyD's for nothing:P
I mean if you can win a suit for microwaving your cat, I'm sure that you can win a suit against the RIAA for slandering and causing you stress and etc.
and i didn't read the article, but if group movement works like cars, or electrons in a curcuit (the pulse being the electricity and the cars being the electrons) couldn't you send a steady laser beam somewhere (assuming you could keep it perfectly targeted) and use this to send a pulse faster than light along the photons or somesort?
I think its a bit ironic that it really looks like a dog or horse leg more than a humans.
Maybe we should just study how animals walk, they seem more adapted to it than us anyways.

Maybe you should look into promoting more, push your music on myspace and facebook, socialize, make people listen.

I am a 22 year old thats still a junior in college and I COMPLETLY agree with you here.
People my age are a bunch of freakin idiots (not all of course, but a shockingly large majority.)

Or not.
Alot of times if you take a pic of a fan with a digital camera, it snaps so quick that it looks stopped.
Until we clog up all the wind, you know.
Its like the internet, except the tubes are bigger.
