4 Unix vulnerabilities could be considered to seriously dumb things to do (clear text services, bad passwords, misconfiguration, these are not problems specifically with unix) Sendmail is more about how horribly bad it's history is (which pales into insignificance if you compare it with IIS, IE, outlook etc) and the Apache entry is more about how crap "Web Programmers" are with security than actual problems with Apache.

Compare with the Windows list. Most of which are application problems and things that have been fixed in the unix world for a long time (such as keeping passwords in /etc/passwd). One of the list has the dubious honour of being the reason for a whole class of vulnerabilities (the "email virus", read, the "Outlook Express virus"). I can remember laughing at people who said "I'll send you a virus in your email" about 6 years ago. The only reason IE isn't higher is because attacks on OE are much more fruitful.

A lot of people here are comparing the amount of time spent watching a DVD to the amount of time spent listening to a CD and concluding that CD are still good value because you listen to it more.

    WAKE UP PEOPLE!

This is monopolistic pricing clean and simple. They are charging what you are willing to pay rather than basing the cost to you on their costs plus profit. Considering that a movie costs 2 to 3 orders of magnitude more to make than a CD and the actual medium costs about the same, CDs should be a lot cheaper. If there was any real competition between the record labels prices would drop dramatically but they're all in on this together so you pay through your noise for something that should be very cheap.

I'm Australian, and I don't like beer. Is there something wrong with me?
This is a serious condition you're suffering there. Fortunately help is at hand. An important step in your recovery is to find yourself a support group (otherwise known as a bunch of piss heads). Gatherings are usually carried out on regular basis (especially on occasions known as sporting events, BBQs, birthdays hard days at work, good days at work, indifferent days at work, having visitors around and generally any day ending in the letter y).

You'll also need a supply of the beer itself. While most Australians would drink tray slops if that's all that was available, it takes many years of practice to achieve this level of sophistication. I'd suggest you start out with something more mainstream but only the good stuff. I'd recommend Boags Premium or Coopers Pale Ale. Get the full strength stuff. Light beer is un-Australian and vaguely suspect.

Once you have your gathering the tough work begins. Start drinking. Push on through the taste for the first half dozen and you'll be there! If you are completely unable to start drinking beer then you may have to start with some other girlie drink for the first couple of hours and then move on to the nectar of the gods later in the evening (afternoon or morning depending on when the support group gathered).

A couple of sessions such as this and you'll be able to stand proudly at the bar at your next public engagement and say "Beer thanks mate".

  17. The problem with talking about IP on Back To SCO · · Score: 1
Is in what you wrote. Copyrights, patents, trade marks and trade secrets are what lawyers talk about. IP is a nebulous term invented by business people who don't understand the distinction.

In your post you have confused copyright (which protects a particular embodiment of a work) with patents (which protects a method of performing something).

There was also an AT&T copyright notice in /bin/false, which contained only the command "exit 255", so if you do that in any script, you are also inviolation of AT&T/SCO's claimed copyright.
AT&T are quite right to claim copyright over that one line but that doesn't stop you from using the same line in another work provided you don't actually copy that one line. It's up to the copyright holder to prove the copyright infringement, not up to you to show it isn't infringing.

If AT&T had gotten a patent on "Method for returning from a program which indicates an error", then you couldn't use that method (or any other different method that did what was in the patents claims) with out risking being taken to court.
