Coming from an embedded systems background, I can say that C is still king here. This sort of unethical high pressure tactic has been happening in not just your industry but in almost every other big-money industry for ages. Banks like Citibank used the same tactic to pressure stock analysts to give Enron a high rating or risk losing business, since Enron at that time was a great source of money for Citibank, Credit suisse, Lehman bros, JP Morgan among others, as they were the ones who helped inflate Enron's shares through their enormous Ponzi schemes.

A naked firefox installation needs at least 6-7 plugins for me to get to the same level of functionality as barebones opera. Ad blocking, no-script, flash block, tab mix plus, etc, which are all right there for you without any plugins on opera.
I bet the memory usage will shoot up once all these plugins are loaded.
Go and learn 6502 or Z80 assembly. I'm serious. I believe every coder should have some exposure to what goes on underneath the wonderful VM based hardware agnostic platform agnostic Java code we write. You will truly appreciate the complexities and intricacies of what goes on there when you write a "simple" statement like:

Amazon's decision to go MP3 is what convinced me to actually buy music online. I've never been a fan of, nor have I ever used apple's DRM infested garbage in AAC format, but amazon changes the equation.
What I'd like to see is a larger range of genres and lesser known artists. Amazon won't lose anything by hosting these types of music.
