Also that they said they probably weren't going to be doing any more podcasts (at least, not regular ones) because they didn't like how they were turning out. So he's holding his breath because he wasn't paying attention.:)
Well, I don't know how their key generation/validation works at all (completely useless if it's public?), so I'll leave that alone. But yes, I know what you're saying.
I was taking issue with what you said about bnetd's "primary reason for existence [being] to get around using valid keys" (you know...the part I quoted?:P) All I'm saying is that specifically attempting to implement the key validation is a pretty good indicator that they wanted to be/stay legit.
And I'm sick hearing all the "He never really said that!" comments. Everybody knows that already. So let's just take a deep breath and let the kids have their worn out joke.
There is no big reason to fear this any more than there is reason to fear the fact that the phone company has a record of every phone call you've ever made.
...making that generalization based on what you've learned in CogSci might be an incorrect generalization to make.
With the disclaimer that I don't know anything about cognitive science, I'd like to say this: Welcome to the wonderful world of the Bell Curve! I hope you'll enjoy your stay here at the far right side of it.:P
The catch with that link is that they're judging productivity as typing speed/accuracy. In which case I agree - have you ever tried typing with really cold hands?:) But if I'm doing something that actually requires some brainpower - like, say, programming - a warm room will just make my brain sluggish and my eyelids heavy.:p
I'm sure you're right in that they're playing up her computer illiteracy, but still...you've never heard of anyone who thinks that the monitor is the computer?
Do you mean to imply that girls putting on makeup (for example) while driving is okay, and therefore talking on the phone is, too? Because as far as I'm concerned, they're both dangerous distractions.
I think the other concern is that so many people use their cell phones and drive at the same time - and that the majority of them don't think of it as dangerous at all. If we can start changing that misconception (and it IS distracting/dangerous - ask anyone who rides a bike), isn't that a good thing?
Not to mention that the sound quality's a hell of a lot better. You're not spending brain resources trying to make out what they're saying over a crappy cell connection.
Apparently when he played through it the first time, he did so alone and at night - thus having much of the same terrifying experience you described. Hell, that radio-monster-proximity-warning sound thing scares the bejeezus out of me and I never even played the freakin' game.
It was summer, so he had a floor fan on in his room where he was playing. The fan had a Bounce(tm) sheet taped to it. (I guess to freshen the air? Rid it of pesky static cling?)
The result? To this day that guy is scared shitless by the smell dryer sheets.
Two things:
1) Is the world really *increasingly* turning to shit, or has it always been and we just hear about more of it now?
2) This reminds me of Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land". Throughout the book, Michael Smith (the human raised among Martians) doesn't understand humour or laughter. In the end he realizes that we have to laugh - we have to laugh at all the "wrongness" because if we didn't we'd be crying all the time.
Upon which realization he breaks into fits of hysterical laughter.:)

Didn't the bnetd people request from Blizzard the info they'd need to implement the CD check? And Blizzard refused/ignored them?
Good at math is different from good at arithmetic. :p

I know I'm way late on this conversation, but I'd throw in a relevant link: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28121 :)
Wait. Did you just say "I'm sure Sony knows what it's doing"?

She's probably mad 'cause he keeps referring to her as his "girlfriend/wife".
A friend of mine has a good Silent Hill 1 story.

Offtopic trivia: Hollywood isn't the biggest industry in California. By far, agriculture is. :)

"This is a pre-beta labs release..."
So it's not even at the standard-Google-perpetual-beta stage yet.
