Actually, the original device was 299$ dollars when it came out.
Yeah, it only supported normal phone plans (not prepaid). Up until recently though, the only phones you could get on prepaid plans were cheap and ugly. Most kids get a nice new phone on their parent's contract. So what's your point?
Please explain the "numerous hardware problems" that apparently plagued the device. I've got one sitting on the desk in front of me, and the only problems with it have already been mentioned by yourself (aside from sidetalking, hehe).
The headline is very misleading. When I saw it, my first thought was "Why?". Then reality kicked in, how did they get it running on PPC hardware? After RTFA, I have to say that was seriously a waste of my time. x86 OS works in x86 emulator. Wow what a breakthrough (sarcasim).
Having said all that, wouldn't it be disgustingly slow running on one of those PPC's?
It just goes to show how ridiculous some patents can be. Companies like Valve have used instant messenger in their games (Steam --> Friends) for some time now. Now I can see protecting innovation, that is perfectly respectable, but patenting something that has been around for ages now just shouldn't be allowed! Next they'll patent "fun".
If Nintendo does try to use it against Microsoft though, it'll just be a case of Microsoft getting a dose of their own medicine. They've been trying stuff like this for years.
I run Debian Sarge dualhead. Nvidia makes it as simple as adding a few lines to your/etc/X11/XF86Config-4. If you don't know how to do it, someone else in the linux world would be glad to do it for you.
Now ATI and linux, that there is a mess. It's much the same as if you bought Windows for your PowerPC, and then were pissed off it didn't work. Buy an Nvidia card, you'll be glad you did.
Yeah, DirectX 10 is great and all. I hear Microsoft is even releasing a new Vista exclusive game in which you throw chairs at other players.
In other news, to save people time Microsoft now includes an aesthetic selection of virii on the installation disk, so you don't have to waste time connecting to the internet to get one. Just another one of Microsoft's amazing innovations.
I haven't used Windows CE since my old Hitachi S3 Windows CE palmtop (which I still have today), on that thing it's basically a black and white Windows 95 without dos.
EXACTLY what I was thinking.
Newer hardware gets cancelled out by newer software, making the whole upgrade cycle rather pointless. Stick with your current software and shell out your hard earned cash on new hardware that will [i]actually[/i] speed up your computer and increase productivity.
There is a fine line where features become bloat...
At least it's drawing attention away from all those bodies in our closets (gamers)...I mean, yeah I agree.
Really this is just another pointless survey by people that have nothing better to do, but it's better than someone trying to prove video games prove cancer etc... Though I'm sure that's not far off.
If you don't want to use the older software found in stable, use testing! It's really not that unstable (that's unstable's job).
As has been said already, Ubuntu is essentially Debian Etch + a polished (brown) Gnome.

Dare to be stupid, from the Transformers Movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092106/) wasn't bad. Never liked much of his other music though.

Larger driver base? Windows? That's a joke.

#apt-build --rebuild world
How is this troll not modded down past "-1"?!?

Has it changed much since then?
Aww oops, really used to BBCode. ;-)
