I really hope that your post is meant to be satire. We have enough laws. Seriously, we do. In fact, I think we could stand to lose a number of them and then enforce the ones we have. Nobody, with any ability to influence, is suggesting that Google is obligated to display anything other than what they want to display. That is good. Let's keep it that way. You can, of course, have unweighted search results when you create your own search engine.

Pictures displayed on my computer, taken with a 14 MB camera - not too complicated or too top end, are almost as crisp as those taken and viewed with traditional means. They also scale quite nice from the limited number (of both digital and traditional) of prints that I have had blown up into poster sizes.

The fines for violating the loud ass commercials are pretty steep. Consult your favorite search engine for more details. Also, Billy Mays (spelling with his last name?) was an asshole. This is NOT true on the internet. They can blast those things at top volume online. However, I was so happy when they stopped blasting ads at me - that day was truly noticeable when I saw it happen. I was so happy. I cut my cable not long after. I watched a half dozen channels, out of a hundred+, and it just did not make sense as I could just get the same stuff online for free and when I wanted to watch it. I do not watch much in the way of television or movies so to speak. I watch documentaries and educational programming almost exclusively.

Then again, I often run Windows with no AV running at all. I simply avoid doing stupid shit and scan it once in a while with MBAM. It is amazing how effective not doing stupid shit is.

Go ahead and attach a hidden serial in it to track who leaks it to torrent sites if you must. I will pay VERY good money for this. I will even stop stealing their content. Couple it with music and, again, I will pay - I will pay triple for the added convenience.

I do not know how much time and effort you put into your posts but I do appreciate it. It can't realistically be scripted so that is even more amusing.

I think they call it "a hobby" but it probably has a Latin name and I do not know it. I think it falls under the same psychosis as addiction. I went through a serious bout with this addiction and eBay. Like all addictions we will use self-talk and poor logic to justify our continued use of the stimuli. I, too, feel your pain. I have computer equipment that goes back to the 70s and, worse, it still works which means I can never free myself from this dungeon of pain. I have video games that go back to that same era and handheld games that came up through the ages. I have two stand-up video game consoles that I intend to turn into MIME machines - and my good intentions remain but they have not been touched in a few years so they sit idle, dark, like a homeless person's toothy grin. I have dozens of laptops, even more desktops, enough cell phones to start my own business selling them, tablets from the early Motion days on XP and tablets with Android, clothing enough to make the Salvation Army blush, a shop full of woodcraft tools, a shop full of automotive tools that let me weld and cut if I ever want to although I never do, a room dedicated entirely to electronics with more than one Fluke sitting idle in its original packaging, books on every subject, a shed full of lawn-care tools, and a variety of vehicles that span the ages but get brought out to a variety of shows and, still, do nothing most of the time.

I do not have a solution but I have a theory. I sold my business and retired. I had this property and it had a house already on it but I wanted one of my own design. So, I had that built. It is quite large and I have noticed that the larger the house the more stuff I will attempt to fit into it. Also, avoid letting it even start to clutter - that is a bad road to head down. Anyhow, it seems that there is a mathematical equation for this. I have not crunched the numbers but it appears to be an attempt to fit 1.5x the amount into the designed space. Nothing good can come of this - no matter what we think. Well, it is amusing and that is good - and our goal, right?

I know of no way to cure this addiction. If I did then my sick brain would tell me that it will not work. You can try throwing it all away (ha!) and moving to a single room efficiency apartment. You will only end up filling up that space in short order. You can try getting a storage unit (or ten) but that does not do anything except MAYBE hide some of it. A spouse does not help. So, you are stuck with it. All you can do is avoid becoming a real hoarder (and you, if you are like me, are a bit too close to that line) by ensuring it is neat, topical, and something you are genuinely interested in and not kept simply because of a need that may arise if you throw it away. You have to, absolutely must, be willing to throw stuff away AND act on that. You are not going to fix that old 5.25" floppy drive and there are no parts inside that are going to help you out. No, nobody else wants it either. Throw it away.

Thank you for the link. I am inclined to believe your link's information as I have not done any additional reading on the subject. Thank you for understanding that it was a legitimate question. We could question what is and what is not 'natural' with this. As humans are creatures created by nature and doing natural things, like eating and creating habitats, this extinction could be considered quite natural. However, that is not important really.

The person who made the claim was saying it with the connotations that it was a bad, pertinent, thing and I suppose it is something we could argue about but it has nothing to do with the actual topic, it is barely tangentially related. I was actually just curious about which species had gone extinct and how they drew the conclusions that humans were the cause. It seems there are some assumptions being made in the research and some extrapolation going on (favoring a larger result, no less) but, again, that is not relevant.

So thank you, again, for the link and it was an interesting read. I will probably look into it more later and see what else I can find.

It is a bit of a ritual with me. I do not get "towed out" under any circumstances. I get "extracted." There is a difference and it is huge. (There is a huge price difference too.) The worst one, or best - really - was during the spring. I had to get a special permit to bring heavy vehicles across the road, a "structural engineer" to determine the load capacity of a snowmobile bridge, and then have my vehicle plucked out with a woods vehicle known as a ''skidder." The skidder driver had to pull out two tow trucks along the way because we had tried to daisy chain them and then use their winches to pull the two tow trucks out.

It cost me more than it cost to buy the Jeep in the first place. Leaving it was not, however, an option. And no, I was not the driver at the time. I was letting a lady friend drive and was gleefully sitting in the passenger seat cheering her on while way too drunk to actually realize that the swamp was as far across as it was.

It is not the worst one. Not even close. A friend that I often go offroading with has been on the back side of a mountain down in Vienna, ME called, well, Vienna Mountain. He was so far out that he ended up calling in a cargo helicopter and a special team to hook up his vehicle to it. I was not there to witness it but I have seen the pictures and the newspaper clipping. He was also being fined $2500/day that the vehicle remained there.

It actually kind of pisses me off when I see vehicles designed for such that never actually see anything more challenging than a dirt road. What the hell did you buy a Hummer for if you are just going to keep it shiny and waxed? They do not even drive it in the snow! One of my great joys in life was a series called the Ford Explorer Sport which was a 2 door variant of the full sized explorer but also had underpinnings related to the Ranger. Anyhow, with a winch, various cosmetics, nice tires, and a small lift they made excellent vehicles. I got to pull a Hummer out of a field and through the ditch where they had ended up after not slowing down for a corner. 4WD does not make one a better driver and does nothing to help with corners. Good times.

If you get the chance to get into being... hmm... vehicularly daring then I recommend it as a good, mostly harmless, hobby. It is better if you are able to do repairs and builds yourself as it is much cheaper. I do not do any of that myself but I have the equipment and know-how, I just really hate getting my hands dirty with such things and I always end up splitting a knuckle open. If you know what you are doing (my MOS was 3505 - motor pool, driving is what I did) then you can go out by yourself and get a lot of places with just a winch, a block of tackle, and a variety of tow straps and chains. If you go out in pairs/groups then you can get even further and try things that are a bit mind-blowing. Somewhere I have a picture of one of the Explorer Sports hanging from a tree.
