100 bucks says there won't be a single flagship phone with a replaceable battery by 2017
I'll give you the flagship bit, but the phone stores where I live are getting full of fairly cheap, very nice Chinese Android phones. All of the features Apple and Samsung won't do, they do.
Smaller screens, larger screens, dual sim, micro sd, removable battery, whatever you're looking for Huawei, or Meizu or someone else will do it usually for a good price too.
I had a bit of a row with management a couple of years back over this...
I'm the IT guy setting the company phones up for various staff.
One of the managers decided he had a staff member who didn't quite warrant a phone, but needed to have access to email 24/7 (for some reason).
When the staff member told me to fsk off, and leave his personal phone alone I didn't press it.
And yes, I explained webmail to the manager.
I'm not sure if NZ declared war on their own or not.
I'm sure, (I'm a Kiwi). New Zealand declared war on Germany, and there has always been this legend that we actually declared war before Britain, which would have been embarrassing if they'd backed out, but no
As I read the Washington Post article I just kept thinking about what a total failure African independence has been. There are hardly any real democracies in Africa.
If you look at the map, an awful lot of African countries have long straight borders that look like they were created by someone in London or Paris with no thought for the realities on the ground.
It's entirely possible that I don't really understand Africa either, but I've often thought that the best thing would be to scrap every country on the continent, and divide the place up along ethnic lines. I know that would hardly be trouble free, but there might at least a chance for some sort of peace in the place.
his critics now charge that Museveni manipulates the military to keep a firm grip on power.
Honestly, how much more of this do you think people are going to put up with before they say 'enough is enough'?
I think people will just assume that that's what Windows 10 is supposed to do, and not change a thing.
Most people are not like you and me, they don't think too deeply about the laptop they've just bought. They bring it home, turn it on, accept some EULA, click a few 'next" buttons and an "OK" or two then start using it.
I'm sure if it came with Linux Mint preinstalled an awful lot of people wouldn't even notice, because Gmail would work fine.
I regularly need to ask people "What version of Windows does your computer run"? and about 2 in 10 know.
That's quite correct about the Somme, 60,000 casualities on the first day alone. The worst day in the history of the British army.
Just as an aside, my Father was at Dunkirk in 1940 in the BEF and had nothing but praise for the French. Americans joke about them being "Cheese eating surrender monkeys", but if the French 2nd Army hadn't fought on alone and unsupported for 2 days, my Dad probably would have been captured by the Germans, and the War might have been lost right there.
I'm unable to predict what any President will actually do in office, based on his/her stated positions leading up to the election.
I usually try to find out where the majority of their campaign cash comes from, that will give you some clue as to what their policies really are.
What they say they'll do and what they'll actually do are not usually very similar.
This AC comment is about the only sensible thing in this thread.
The DMCA and IP law generally were written by content holders for their own ends, and supported by the lawmakers they bought with campaign contributions.
Putting forward clever schemes for punishing wrongdoers ignores what these laws are intended to do, and that is to provide rents to the entertainment cartel for as long as they want.
Those questions are not 'science" questions at all, they're just the basic knowledge everyone should have about the world around them.
The reason there's a huge change in numbers between the elephant evolution question and the human evolution question is because weirdo Protestant Christians (in the US anyway) are told that humans are not animals, but are somehow special, so when they're asked about evolution, of course they answer that humans have not evolved.
Elephants are animals however, so the mental gymnastics they have to do to fit the Bible into science gets them all confused.
While I'm not sure I agree with your Muslim nutjob stuff, you're right about the nuking of Japan
My Father had spent the previous 6 years or so fighting some Germans in France, North Africa and Italy, but was told in about June 1945 he would be sent to Japan.
I can tell you, he thought Truman made the right choice.
Hey, these Egyptians are awesome, lets help their military conduct a coup against their elected Government, so we can continue to sell them weapons used to repress the population, despite that being against the laws of the US.
But some Chinese company thinks it's worth $1.2 billion?
Smells like money laundering to me, the Chinese government have cracked down on people moving money out of the country, so it might be an end run around those rules.

And she probably really believes that she's doing real science
She's a dude:
lead author Mark Carey
That was my first thought. Someone's trolling.
then she goes to jail
As if! She's far too rich and far too white to go to jail in the US.

No, of course not.
Your Dad must have been a hell of a fighter !!
Yeah, might have phrased that badly.
He did wind up in the 2nd Parachute Regiment, and definitely killed German soldiers. That's something he had trouble living with.

However, in 1939 the New Zealand Army consisted of about 300 men.
I can see plenty of people wanting some sort of rational debate, and disagreeing with Christians, but no-one pounding on them.

Yeah, well, it's Africa
Besigye, a retired army colonel
So probably no better than the last guy
Obviously the Royal Navy could still have controlled the Channel, but a negotiated surrender would almost certainly have happened.

Awesome, money's on it's way. Always a pleasure to deal with Nigerian royalty.

Can't help feeling like I just dodged a bullet.

Eversource has a very large in-house legal team and an active Political Action Committee in Washington.
This was the line I took out of the article. Sounds like the company will get the Feds to write the rules that suits them best.
I have always assumed that's the point of a PAC.
