The ones my little girl picked out are the kind Papaver somniferum that are known as the Opium Poppy. Now you are right there might be different ones that have more or less of the chemicals in them. Still you don't see marijuana seeds at Home Depot.
The fact your post is moded to a 5 means there is no hope left for this world. The amount of economic ignorance is just too much to be overcome.
The problem we have today is a combination of 99 weeks of unemployment and a minimum wage. Eliminate both of these and unemployment will disappear. People will have to get jobs at whatever wage they can. At first this will cause a downward pressure on wages. But once full employment is reached then this will stop and start climbing as employers are forced to raise wages to attract new workers. Also with more people working more will be produced. This will increase the supply of good and cause a downward pressure on prices. Nobody can predict where wages and prices will be in a free market but I can say it will bet better. All the current policies do is tax people who produce to pay other people not to produce and prevent people whose skills aren't worth more than an arbitrary wage from producing at all.
I went to Home Depot to buy seeds for my garden. My 5 year old daughter came to me with a Disney Seed Packet with a picture of Belle from Beauty and the Beast and a picture of a nice big pink flower and asked if we could buy it. I said sure. I got home and looked at them and they were Poppy seeds. I though for a second and said well they can't be the heroin type of poppy seeds can they? So I looked online for a picture of the flower and sure as heck it was the same type of poppy you can use to make heroin. I decided not to plant them because knowing my luck I'd have a DEA agent in my yard. But I thought it would be funny to show that Disney is selling heroin seeds.
What I like about the Salvation Army is they operate under the principle that people will always donate and they spend the money as it is donated.
The Red Cross and others seem to want to build a war chest so that when a big disaster hits they will be prepared. They take money from big events and hold some of it over for other operations. What bothers me about this is it seems like they don't trust people to donate when something happens.
A corporation is a group of people taking advantage of a government granted insurance policy. The main thing incorporating does is separate your personal finances from that of the corporation. Your company can go broke but your personal assets are safe. There is no reason to have this government granted insurance. A company should have to buy it as an insurance policy on the free market just like car insurance or an umbrella policy. You buy those to protect your assets if you are held liable for something.
In 1995, a man in Wrocaw, Poland, had a car accident. At the hospital, his BAC was determined to be 1.48%. He died a few days later from wounds from the car accident. Police were baffled as to how an individual could attain such a high blood alcohol. Later, police discussions with his brother in-law revealed that he had "beer bonged" pure grain alcohol allegedly stolen from his place of work, a chemical plant.[42]
On a personal note I drank quite a bit in high school. One night I drank a whole 750ml bottle of Jack Daniels over the course of two hours. I vomited a few hours later so I'm not sure how fast it got absorbed but my BAC had to get pretty high. These days I don't drink regularly and one drink is enough to make me seriously buzzed. If you are a drunk your body gets used to the toxic effects.
How about a cert on you liscense if you can pass the drivers test while texting? Or drinking for that matter. If I can pass the test with a 1.2 BAC I should get a stamp allowing me to do so. Not all people are equally impaired by the same thing.
Slavery is still legal in the US. Take a look at the text of the 13th Amendment.
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
They want to take a movie on how a light travels through a scene. Just like watching waves in a wave tank.
Here is how they do it. The fire a laser pulse into a scene. Then after a certain amount of time in the picoseconds they record the image with a line sensor. This only records one horizontal line of information Repeat with a slightly longer delay. Continue until the light is no longer in the scene. Rotate a mirror in order to record the next horizontal line in the scene and repeat the above.
Finally combine all of the recorded lines with the same delay into a picture and combine the pictures at different delays into a movie.
So this isn't a high speed camera in the sense that could slow down a physical event like a bullet firing or explosion. It is more like doing stop motion photography.
You have to follow the money. The shares will only be worth what someone is willing to pay for them. With the easy money policy we have I'm sure big wall at guys are going to take that free money and buy shares. But where does the real wealth come from? Since the money was created from nothing it just adds to the money supply which devalues everyone else's dollars. So basically with the help of the Federal Reserve these people are getting rich off of the everyone holding dollars. Isnt crony capitalism great!
I took a course in Power Plant Engineering. The 3 hour final had one questions. It was a schematic of a power plant with all of the equipment. We were asked to find the power output of the generator. Even thought it's "one" question it took about 50 steps to figure it out. What was fun is all of your errors carried forward. He did give partial credit for at least knowing what to do if you showed your work. Brutal.
Usually when you crash your car and it's going to catch fire it happens relatively soon. With the Volt it can look fine after a crash and then a few weeks later burst into flames in your garage.
A monopoly isn't necessarily bad. If there is a monopoly due to free people making choices about whom to buy from it isn't a problem. The only problem is if there are laws designed to protect those monopolies. In a free market there is always room for competition to take away market share from a company becoming a monopoly. As soon as there is competition they are no longer a monopoly. Try to name a monopoly that exists in the free market without political support.
There are no problems with unions only with government support or hostility towards them. What is interesting is there are no neutral states. There are pro-union and right to work states. One uses force to make an employer deal with unions and the other forces them to allow people to work without joining unions. The neutral position would have the government take no stance on them. Like you said in a free society with freedom of association you would have unions form. But the employer would also have the freedom to deal with the union or not. There are some trade unions that are actually very good at providing training and maintaining standards for members like welders, pipe fitters, iron workers, and electricians. If the local union really consisted of the best talent then employers might want to work with the unions to get the best people and choose not to hire anyone not in the union. If the union was just a corrupt bunch of thugs the employer could choose not to deal with them. Also a good union would attract members while corrupt ones would lose them. This is the beauty of liberty.
It amazes me that people on slashdot can think this way. This is a bizarre way to look at the world.
You have two choices on how you spend your time labor or leisure. You labor in order to meet your wants. This can be directly like building your own house or farming your own food or indirectly by creating something other people will trade your for. Leisure is how you want to spend your time when your wants are met. Everyone has their own balance between these two and how much they are willing to trade labor for leisure.
Productivity advances allow people to either spend more time in leisure or have more stuff. Most people today choose to have new stuff. If you adopted the lifestyle of someone living in the 1950's you could get by working 10 hours a week. One car, 1200 sqft house, TV with antenna, eating 1500 calories a day cooked mostly at home. Most people aren't happy with that. They want cable, internet, cell phones, new car, 3000 sqft house, ect and they are willing to work for it.
The big thing you are missing is the manipulation of the currency. Since the 1970s we have been using a fiat dollar. This allows for unlimited spending and inflation. Many people mistake rising prices for inflation. Inflation is just simply an increase in the money supply. This can cause price inflation but only if it exceed the deflation caused by productivity gains. Politicians count on this in order to pay for votes. If we had a hard commodity backed currency and a 100% reserve banking system things would be much better. The politicians and bankers wouldn't have the ability to enrich themselves with money created from nothing. Those that actually do the work would be able to save and keep their wealth without fear of it being inflated away. Price deflation would happen in industries where productivity is increasing benefiting all consumers.
There was once an actual job called a computer. You were a slow human version of excel or matlab. An engineer would give you an equation or some data and the functions they wanted and you would sit there with a slide rules and solve and plot these things by hand. Well that job is gone and good riddance. Now everyone has the computwtional power of an army of these people on their phone,

I'm not an EE but could you degauss a Rare Earth Magnet in an MRI or other magnetic coil if it was injested?

I meant 1.2 as an extreme case. I think most people can drive with a .12

I got my divers licence in NJ at the Rahway Motor Vehicle Station which was close to the state prison. I was a closed course off the public streets.

As opposed to having a minimum wage and 20% unemployment?
Here is my take of what is going on.

How did the sales make themselves wet?

There goes another argument against breaking up monopolies.
