  1. Anyone Rational People in the Room? on India Attempts To Derail ACTA · · Score: 1
How do most advanced drugs get created? By socialist governments? Or maybe by underground tech communities? Small businesses? Humanitarian groups? Nope, American and other free market Corporations.

So you want to take away the ability for a these companies to keep the rights to their products? Alright, we can do that, but then what incentive is there for the company to invest large portions of their budget into R&D for new products that they will have to give away? This lack of protection will stop the production of new medicines and will hurt the people you say the corporations are screwing... the poor who need drugs. If we had not had the corporations and copyright protections for their drugs in the past; we would not have had half the vaccines, cures and treatments that many here are complaining greedy companies are withholding. You are basically killing the hand that feeds you.. Wake up and look at the whole cycle. McDonalds doesn’t give every homeless person a Big Mac because it’s the humanitarian thing to do; it would kill their ability to serve anyone a Big Mac. If you want to give away great new products/services start a non-profit or humanitarian organization and do it! Stop bitching about people who choose to make a profit while you sit on the sideline telling people what to do with their money or IP.

I really don't know a ton about the specifics of ACTA but the overall idea of protecting a companies copyrights especially in the drug, technology and media arenas is necessary for the whole cycle of creation to continue. Let large markets of people get these products for free and you erode the incentives and slow the innovation/production of better goods.

  2. Retarded People this is simple on Researchers Work Around Hepatitis Drug Patent · · Score: 1

Drug companies are just that.. companies, businesses, profit makers! Are you trying to tell them to not make money but invest money in research, ads, etc and just give their products away?

What many people are stuggling with here is not what a drug company should or should not do but that they want social welfare where the government pays for the research of the drugs then it can freely be given away.

I am sry but there is no way to look at this problem and blame the drug companies. They are just doing what any other business does, make money.

If you want to discuss the probem, talk about the expense of using capitolism in drug research/production. Would we get as many ground breaking medicines if we relied on a non profit agency to produce them or does having competition produce more.

Telcos are not the internet. The internet uses telcos along with many other non phone related communcations standards including microwave, satellite and non telco fiber backbones. We are not debating if control of the telcos are being given up. We are debating if the system that runs over top of all of these mediums should be given away. Which means who is going to control the master DNS servers since this basically dictates the internet. The hierarchy is headed by US colleges and comapnies and probably some US bureaucracy.

I am sure that my taxes have been used to pay off debt accumulated during the cold war. DARPAnet was paid for by the US taxpayer and most would agree this is one of the first internets and the precurosor to the current day internet. The investment was in designing the programatic infrastructure for this that is still used today and the establishment of the DNS hierarchy which we control.

A little to late.. sry europe, asia, africa... invest in something to benefit you.. don't bitch to get another countries technology dominance on the basis.. "we want"?

Main point to Counteract this notion of releasing the internet to foreign control.. We paid for it, we built it and we run it. The world is not socialistic. We went out on a limb and spent "our" money (hello texpayers.. your money paid for it) to embetter our country and people; this venture was pay dirt but how many other government projects bombed to get this one. A capatalistic move to invest in our infrastructure then release it for public use in the hopes to improve tech, business etc. Other countries think that we should give it up because its so vital now, should be laughed at. You think we suck.. we beg to differ. Not our fault that we did more than built tanks and nukes during the cold war.

This is quite possibly the worst idea I have ever heard... Fear, in the sense you are talking, has not one time this year dictated my decision. I am a pretty large demographic (White Caucasan Male) of the US so I am not isolated. With this said how do you base youre "idea" that everything is based on fear? "Nothing new about that; people went to prison or were executed for being anarchists, atheists, sodomites, communists, socialists, jews, in one way or another, in the US for all its history." Umm yeah... when did the government kill any of these demographics for that purpose? "They've no laws to follow, so they can do what they like to us. " Are you reading what you are writing? Hello earth to major tom! This is getting ridiculas. I was considering myself moderate but now I can tell a true liberal is letting his views known, count me in as a right wing nutjob! I choose to take the risk of riding in a car but I do not choose to take the risk of having a 747's jet fuel burn me at 1000+ degrees.

How about ditch a Mac and get a debian box. Macs don't use their own OS or even their own nitche processors anymore. Why are we even calling them the same things. Only difference now is macs are pretty and cost too much. Moral of the story if you want to game get windows box with a amd processor and if you want to do anything else use linux. HIGHJACKED

Unfortunetly it takes more than a dead link on a website for me to loose faith in AMD. I would rather them higher better engineers than a huge marketing team and an army of website developers. AMD has done half the advertising and yet they are just as well known... know why? their products speak for themselves.

Great Discussion but I would not blame right wing in this. We don't want anymore government interaction into anything much less our porn or cracks. This is some small company who found a law firm who would run with their outlandish claims probably on the basis they might get lucky and make more money in the lawsuit than their half ass company does. Very few things you can fault google with and on top of that list is the moral decisions in their design choices. You would have to catch the judge on a day with a pineapple up his ass for him to find against google.
