I tried to go as long as humanly possible without a cell phone (I absolutely HATE phones), but eventually had to cave in due to social, school, and work-related issues..not to mention with pay-phones disappearing nowadays, it can be a pain in the ass to make a phone call when you're in unfamiliar territory.
No kidding, I feel exactly the same way. It is gotten to the point where the cell phone is completely necessary, just like roads, water, gas, and electricity. Under the old wired system, we used a network paid for by the taxpayers (though it's been stolen from us since). Now we are forced to choose between becoming disenfranchised or using expensive proprietary networks which are designed to nickel-and-dime us to death.
This flaw allows random websites to flood your OS X Downloads folder without any warning whatsoever.
No, it really doesn't. You have fallen for FUD.
You can't spin away facts. Sorry.
Yet that is precisely what you appear to attempting. The fact is that Safari on OS X does not do this unless one clicks "download" after the warning. Clear enough now?
While it is easy to criticize the current system's flaws, there is currently no viable solution at this time.
Of course there is. We could stop spending our tax money on corporate welfare and we could reign in corporate rights. The financial entity part of the equation only makes sense if it is closely controlled and if its rights do not trump those of the individual, which in fact was the original idea. The way it has become, the notion of corporate accountability is a joke -- the taxpayers or the consumers (often the same people) pay to clean up the mess while the corporation prospers. This system is broken, but not yet beyond repair.
There is nothing inherent in collective endeavor which requires the endeavor be considered an entity.
Under US law corporate entities have rights and receive benefits which are superior to those available to the individual.
You have just put your finger on the root of the problem -- "The corporate entity" is a construct which should never have been permitted. The USA has become a socialist state for large corporations and a feudal state for humans.
Though an astute observer might argue that aligning the interests of the nation to that of its corporations is what is going on now, and that that is what make our current system fascist.
It isn't a flaw if Safari is running in OS X, as many of us have pointed out.
Still, Apple really should've given MS users the same protection OS X users enjoy. Unfortunately it is true that Apple software on windows isn't nearly as good as it is in OS X. I love my Mac, but I certainly wouldn't call Steve Jobs a nice guy who plays fair.
Anytime Safari downloads an executable in OS X it pops up a warning dialog informing the user that Safari is downloading a potentially dangerous executable, and then one has to click Cancel or Download in that dialog. So no, it isn't a problem on OS X, just Windows. I wonder why they don't give Win users the same protection?
Dolphin? Sounds like you may be using Kubuntu 8.04, which I also had a lot of trouble with. In fact, now that I've tried all three I have to say xubuntu is the way to go. Ubuntu claims that switching from kubuntu to xubuntu is a simple matter of "sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop", but that didn't fix the kubuntu bugginess. Downloading and using the xubuntu installer did the trick, and now everything works as it should. HTH.
Yes, it is. At least it is among thinking people. And just recently MS was exposed for tampering with the ISO and they are still in violation of multiple anti-trust laws in Europe as well as the US. Whole books could be written about the criminal behavior of MS. But I guess by your reasoning it would be okay if your daughter started dating a convicted rapist, because you don't believe that past behavior is an indicator of present/future behavior.
Well, you are entitled to your belief system, no matter how irrational...
Windows XP is almost rock-solid (from a stability standpoint)... this has been the general consensus for years.
Erm, hardly. I have plenty of experience with XP, Linux, BSD, and OS X. The general consensus among geeks is that XP is a turd compared to the others. Furthermore, this is not at all a new thing. But I suppose those who've only ever used Windows wouldn't really know better. All they really know is that XP beats 98.
Also, the other poster had every right to call you rabid and unreasoning
Sorry, you lose. I said what my friend told me, and I said I thought she was probably right.
Since when is it "rabid" or "unreasoning" to expect MS to use evil means to push their products? It's SOP for them, has been from the very beginning. That is why MS has a monopoly. It certainly isn't due to the merits of Windows.
Capitalism/Democracy == Emergent economy, and bottom up determinacy of government.
Oh yeah, it sure is great how we in the USA have such excellent representation in government. By golly, our system 'just works!'
/sarcasm
You do have a point.
I understand. When dealing with thieves there is no obligation to be honest; in fact it is counter-indicated.

I hear Windows 7 will have that.

Bird flu? They've been marketing that one for a few years now.
Someone's confusing the word "flame" with the word "fact", I guess...

:)
There, fixed that for you.

Silly rabbit -- It's criminal charges which are only for the poor.
That puts you on the same infantile level as those who call MS' OS "winblows". Time to grow up.

Great! Now I can miss out on a good fourth or so of all web content and experience inferior xserver performance just like the old days...
By "point release" I of course mean that I am still using Tiger. The number after the second decimal point indicates the update for the point release.
Oh Lord, thanks yes. My nerves, my freakin' nerves!!!
Contextually challenged, aintcha? :)
That's just weasel speak. But hey it's okay, maybe win7 will finally give you something to crow about. Stranger things have happened.
"Judgement"? I merely expressed my opinion.

Yes, and they'd call it the iMork.
