  1. This is turning out great. on ICANN Endorsements; Cyber-Federalist · · Score: 1

As I look at the names of who's getting the most votes, and cross referencing them with the previous story on slashdot (where the candidates responded to the Civil Society Statement). And I am most pleased.

Although, due to ICANN being irresponsible and not providing the resources necessary to allow for a truly democratic election, I have not been able to secure my vote.

But I am glad that those who did get through, are voting wisely. The three (Auerbach, Simons, and Tiller) would be a welcomed addition to the board. More importantly, I'm happy that many of the politicians in this battle are not getting many votes.

So to all of you ignorant trolls on this website, who believe that in large groups, people are dumb,... you are WRONG. People are intelligent, and if you would simply give them a chance, you would find that out. People in groups, can make democratic decisions which benefit everyone. And if you can't understand this, then I truly feel sorry for you.

By the way, was this sign up thing for the at-large memebership a one-time thing, an annual thing, or what?

Normally, I would say shut up and get another ISP. But that's not really possible, because phone companies and cable providers have monopolies on broadband home access. And because of this, I think such a lawsuit is greatly justified.

Although I would question how they know that their access is being slowed by the ISP. It would seem to me that it'd be very difficult to prove such a thing.

Because things like DSL and Cable are in the infancy, this case will determine how much control an ISP actually has. This will also further determine ISP's relation as telecommunications providers.

They did it before, and we settled out of court. Thanks a fucking lot Uncle Sam. I mean, I'm not surprised in the least bit that the music industry has weazled out of the agreement. To be honest, we need to revitalize the age-old practice of corporate death sentences (government mandated dissolution of corporations).

Has anyone else seen the Phillip Morris commercials? They're very gutsy! They seem to agree with the government's actions against the cigarette industry. But at the end they say "We thought you should know". Phillip Morris and friends have destroyed lives, the SAME way that the music industry is destroying culture.

The music industry takes our culture, packages it, copyrights it, and makes it a product.

We're seeing more and more anti-trust suits being pushed through. Mostly resulting from the sucesses of the Microsoft prosecution. THIS ISN'T A BAD THING. Government exists to protect the people, and I honestly believe they are doing just that.

  14. We need this. on Several Boycotts Of RIAA Organizing · · Score: 1

The current Napster vs. RIAA legal battle encompasses EVERYTHING we hold true. The effects of the legal precedents set forth here, will determine the balance of power when it comes to intellectual property.

Personally, I believe intellectual property is the right of recognition, and NOT the right of control. Information is non-susbsistance, so any attempt to control it in the same manner as other wordly objects goes against everything I believe in.

The recommendations for the boycott can be found here.

I think we are all well justified in our decisions to boycott the RIAA. We need to place a stranglehold on the RIAA.

If we boycott the RIAA, they need to know! We can't have those filthy record producing animals, screaming about Napster having caused them to lose millions of dollars worth of records. Remember, the boycott is only for the Month of August. If you intend on buying a CD, wait until September 1st.

Hopefully, with enough supporters, the RIAA will look closely at record sales between the month of August and the month of September. If this works, they will see a HUGE difference. And only if they know about the boycott, will they put two and two together.

I understand not buying music is difficult. We all need to band together, and make our collective voices heard!
