When a product is released you can usually assume it WILL be cracked. Why not use this for the good of all?
I certain there are many things in the field of AI where human input is needed. Maybe image recognition or something. When a project is thought up use THAT as the captcha. I'm sure captchas have helped propel text reading applications. I can barely read them sometimes, if they have been cracked this code can be easily applied to text readers. Lets move on to something else.
If it holds you win, if it gets cracked you win and switch projects.
It would still be newsworthy maybe more so. The only thing of value he is giving them is his name, if he publicly denounced the product he'd be taking that all back.....
I'll take this as a thinly disguised repost, some guy from boingboing changing ISPs is NOT news worthy. It it were richard himself dropping his own ISP then fine. But it is infact just some guy....
I would just like to say.... (citation needed) where is this guys proof? Ohhhh wait, He isn't against wikipedia's reliability to give proven facts at all. He just isnt comfortable that people arent listening to authority for authorities sake. Well sorry you're going to have to do better than that. Come back when you can fill wikipedias minimum requirements that you bemoan so.
Man someone suggests a mac gets modded up and a guy pointing out a flaw gets modded down. Of all the groups in/. Mac fangirls are the WORST at following the rules. There is no -1 disagree. I hate how things get slanted since maccies cant follow that.
That said I find it hilarious that you compared it to the macbook pro. So I think you should really go compare them. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&node=home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/systemconfig.runtime.workflow:LoadRuntimeTree?sb=:00000025:00000311:&smid=1F106632CBC24D2CBD23DF19644D3694
First thing you will notice is that the most expensive t61 starts at around 900$ cheaper than the cheapest macbook (so its not a viable alternative). Next when you customize the lenovo so that it has the same specs as the macbook you are still 700$ cheaper than the mac. And that comes with vista which you will otherwise have to pay for.
So please PLEASE at least read the stats and do a quick comparison before you speak. A product being 50% more expensive for the same specs is an EMBARRASSMENT. Don't brag about it.
This post will get modded flamebait by a horde of angry mac users. Hopefully the message reaches atleast a few people.
IF it were well explained before i was hired that they did this i would be ok with it because i could get a different job if i felt it too draconian. Companies need warning labels "will read your personal emails" "will search through your blog and facebook accounts" "will ask you to cover up our incompetence" and that sort of thing.
At this point, it seems everyone would be happy for it to arrive in any state.
I would much prefer solid, i honestly dont think i'd trust a gaseous plane. Though I thought the article was complaining about vapourware in the first place.
Sorry, your comment made me look up the numbers. Near the beginning of the war on terror (year 1,2) the comment was warranted friendly fire was around and above 30% of allied casualties. And over 2/3 in the first few weeks in Iraq. However over the years that number has gone down significantly. It seems us forces are doing better at not blowing themselves up the last few years.
Yes well you can't exactly drive internationally unless you are referring to the internet. When in rome (in this case the international community known as the internet) do as the romans do. Its the same as when you print scientific articles you use the metric system even if you are in the states. That said I think you are getting a tad anal when you complain about aluminium... colour maybe but w/e
wuh-hi the hel wood u wont to pro-noun-se that hi-li ok-werd, u-se-les and ri-dun-dant fifth sil-a-bul?
Yeahhhh because English really cleaned up its spelling didn't it? If it were a concerted effort to clean up strange spellings you wouldn't have gone after the letter u and ium words before taking on 'knife'. The reason america is wrong isn't because of how it is supposed to be spelled (from a pronunciation point of view). It is because the rest of the world spells it differently. Its like using inches and feet in a metric world. Get with the program.
Its a text message dude this isn't the biggest money grab in the world. Even if they counted it as yours most people wouldnt even get charged for it (100 free text msgs with most phone plans). I think people on/. have seen the government screw people so often that they are growing a bit paranoid. Government is usually incompetent not malicious. Companies are both but they probably loose out on this deal. In the end the messaging service warning people before they get hit by a wall of water seems like a good idea. Adding terrorism and amber alerts (NOT a threat to your person) is stupid, but thats just a cause of incompetence not any malicious plan.
I think if i were in a katrina like (disaster) situation i'd like a "Goto high ground or joo gunna die nub -- Tha Government" message. It would be definitely nicer than getting owned. Also i'd likely opt out of the amber alert, which you can do, rtfa.
If an american moves to china and then breaks an american IP law. They are not in trouble. as Oktober said, dibs has nothing to do with it. If it doesn't satisfy you check your bible for the other books he mentioned. Exodus and leviticus. There are plenty of non jews that get killed for not believing in god. I mean villages of em.
Wouldn't all of the oceans on earth, being moved by the moons gravity for millenia count as prior art? Or is it an invalid claim because the ocean is not a person and hence cannot produce prior art? (Partly serious question) Scientists have proudly ripped of nature for generations, somethings like bits of genetic modeling and science that costs millions to research should get patented even though they are jsut ripping off nature. But gravity seems a bit....
Oh my bad, I was leaning against the reality distortion field switch, man it could have gotten bad if it made it to the 'ludicrous' setting. At that point people simply start shedding money whenever they see a guy in a black shirt.
Not only that but why blow that CPU power on ray-tracing. We'd have to first run out of other useful things to spend processing power on. I'm sure everyone on/. can think of a few dozen. Thinking it will be a=implemented anytime soon (for anything other than proof of concept) is absurd.
Try the bible next, its just as awesome. So much violence that it feels out of place even for a fantasy novel. It bugs me when people gang up on islam when its just that all religions are crap.
Its pretty obvious you don't understand how resistant markets are to change. Anything new and not garbage that escapes past the board of directors is shocking and disruptive.
:p that defeats the point of ebanking now doesnt it lol. There is a limit in security vs annoyance. I'm sure giving people card readers in the 1st place would be a devastating security breach.
Oh and http://random.irb.hr/signup.php for math problem captcha...
womg! Why would you say derivative captchas are a bad idea? Mandatory calc for boards would be awesome.

Ok, boingboing guy that used to work for the EFF. Unless his living in toronto makes him particularly important.
that said at the speed of which i got modded down must mean hes done something particularly important....
"Cory Doctorow" who???
I'll take this as a thinly disguised repost, some guy from boingboing changing ISPs is NOT news worthy. It it were richard himself dropping his own ISP then fine. But it is infact just some guy....
Mod parent up please, so many people fail to notice this one.

You can also read keypresses on wireless AND wired keyboards from a decent distance.

Come now, The FF rate of the US armed forces is so high that if the bots fired randomly they'd get about the same.

Sorry about the pessimism(its exam week)
