Nice find. Looks like we finally have some good news from that one too. Power consumption is much, much lower than the rest of the competition. Like the article mentioned, will be nice to see some mobile versions of these cards (with good drivers).
AMD.ATI really needed to have some good news with these cards, but they blew it with the first impressions. I can only hope they can stay in the game be releasing some quality drivers to take advantage of these new cards. From the looks of it, 8600 hardware is peanuts compared to the 2600. With the expected prices, they should be killing the mid/low range DX10 market. This does not bode well. I look forward to reviews of retail cards, but my enthusiasm has dropped. Seems as if nVidia was almost counting on AMD.ATI to release shitty drivers and hiked up the price of low end DX10 as much as they could.
Definitely Bioshock. All this marketing for Halo 3 is making me NOT want to get it. They aren't doing a very good job of grabbing my attention with their viral marketing attempt. They did a MUCH better job with the Nine Inch Nails album that just came out. Perhaps that's because they actually have something good to work with, unlike this Halo 3 "storyline". They market it too openly for all ages that it just turns me off. Bioshock is giving me exactly what I want: a mature themed game with unique environments and story, not to mention a sweet evolution of the psionic attacks in SS2. And from the sounds of it, choice. Something you probably will find scarce in Halo 3.
It's more convenient than e-mail for the purpose I outlined. Send simple and short messages without any purpose just to get the other person knowing you still know they exist. I like to keep my email seperate from that sort of thing, so I can keep it for important e-mails like spam and forwards.
For whatever reason, people like it. If it involves less effort in saying hi to people, and keeps them happy, then what the hell, go for it.
People don't care about email, thats the problem. This way, you can easily keep track of people if you want, and say hi once in a while without any need to write lengthy emails. Plus, you would check your e-mail much more often than facebook.
Facebook has one major use for me: It's not instant communication. Ever get tired of people asking for your MSN address? Or having people message you constantly when you're in the middle of something? There are alternatives, you can ignore these people, or politely refuse to give them your address, OR you can tell them that you don't really use MSN anymore and that you would rather add them to facebook? This way, you don't have to instantly respond to someone's message, you can keep track of friends more easily if you want, and you don't have to feel guilty about ignoring people on MSN! I have many good friends on MSN that I just don't talk to, not because I don't want to talk to them, but because I don't want to use MSN to talk to them. MSN takes up way too much time to say what you want to say. I have better things to do. I'd rather see these people in person.
Maybe some people don't care as much, and the site wouldn't be useful for them. But I know I feel particularly guilty when I haven't talked to people in months. So I just drop them a message on facebook and I don't expect an instant reply. Simple!
I haven't seen this occur in any of the other demos? I sincerely doubt that it will get a massive facelift (which, IMO, is what it needs), but definitely some improvement.
..but I'm more interested in the single player. It's what kept the original alive for so long for me. The giant maps, huge battles, shitloads of Flood to feed shotgun pellets to.. Halo isn't really known for its fantastic graphics.. they are good but have never been at the top. Halo 2's storyline was a huge disappointment to me, so I'm hoping that they make up for it this time around. But it seems like they are focusing more on MP, as that is what kept Halo 2 alive for so long.
Would be neat to have this on glasses or something like that. Your glasses can double as reading/seeing glasses, if you need a different prescription or something for different activities. I imagine it wouldn't take much power, just charge them when you go to sleep or something.
I think its a good idea they aren't throwing some giant new feature into the next version. Might be a good idea to just have a basic browser, and use addons for features you find necessary. And they could develop their own addons as well, for those who might not trust user submitted addons.
I hope this is the case, but there have been some games like that PS2 game, the Getaway I think it was called, where there was no HUD at all, or so I recall.
I think he gave about half a page towards desktops? Its safe to say the majority of the article, and also where he went into the most depth. A paragraph or two about the iMac (which some would say is almost in a different market). Very little about stand alone desktops, which was my point. I'll be sure to clarify myself further. I forgot this is slashdot;)
If this is anything like SS2, I will love it (although its sad I will never see a conclusion to the SS series). From the preview video's I've watched, it seems like there is no crosshair or anything. Which can be cool, but also a pain in the ass. Could be just the 360 version though, where auto-aim will most likely be enabled.

Doesn't have any purpose!?

You, my friend, need to learn how counterexamples work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterexample
Well you know how early 90's IBM PCs were!! So tiny!
Thats only the first payment... for all we know it could be another 15 years til they make the second...
So, yeah, about the 5 million... well, we were kinda expecting you to forget about it ya know? Thats what friends are for, right?
On a serious note, I am surprised at no mention of paying a smaller amount or anything.. No they expect IBM to just forget about the whole thing.
Oops, shit, I misread. I didn't notice the parent wrote hardware support. Sorry, mate.
That's entirely different. Supporting a standard format is nothing like supporting an entirely different operating system.
The summary made it seem too hopeful, considering its only a minute and a half in "space".
And if he loses count, make him start over!

Yes, I think you are required to teabag if you want your kills to count.

Liquid isn't considered a mechanical part.

Foxmarks may be of some interest for you. Although with Google Bookmarks you probably have cross platform support.

Sometimes they do that to encompass another file.. but no idea about this particular example.
