I don't understand how Intel supports this. They have pumped a lot of money and support into Linux in the past. Why would they now produce products that freeze it out?
The problem is that now they are responsible to the end user. Before they had the OEM to shield them from the end user both legally and operationally. MS could always point at the OEM and claim the problem is with the hardware. During the leagal actions agains MS, they claimed they weren't culpable because they didn't sell the product to the end user the OEM or reseller did. This removes that layer of protection and allows class action against MS directly.

Does this support audible.com? I have too much invested in audiobooks to get rid of iTunes without an alternative. If I could get a linux version that does that I could ditch windows altogether.
Is this going to be like USB with V1.0,the crippled version to meet a GSA spec? Then later in the year v2.0,the real thing. Then next year V3.0 with all of the bugs out.

Also, Intel has a long history of supporting Linux. I can't imagine they would build hardware that would not work with it.
