    Allow open access to our mobile devices. I have root on any Mac/Windows/Linux system. By rights, I should have the same access on my tablets and phones.

    Considered the last of Heinlein's juveniles, Starship Trooper is a Hugo winner and a true classic. Paul Verhoeven's movie is a travesty, raped the book, and doesn't deserve to carry the title.

    My dot is very useful in conjunction with Alexa Harmony remote skills for my home theater.

    "Alexa, turn on Fire": Starts TV,receiver,Fire TV & Kodi.

    "Alexa, "Turn on Shield": Starts TV,receiver, Nvidia Shield & Kodi.

    "Alexa, turn off Fire/Alexa turn off Shield": reverse the above.

    "Alexa, Connect phone": Starts the receiver, toggles bluetooth and links to phone for streaming.

    "Alexa, drop in on...": The Echo Show makes an excellent home intercom system and link my home office and my wife's sewing room.

    Privacy is an illusion in 2017 anyway.

    What a great article. The writer slammed one right out of the park! As a retired IT guy, with suck vision, I curse Jony Ives and his ilk daily.

    My biggest hate is scroll-bars. Pale grey with a very slightly darker grey thumb that's usually impossible to see. I don't find Windows 10 to be much better.

      Thank God for Linux. I develop using QT so I use all three platforms regularly.

    The Nook Simple Touch (E-Ink) reader hardware is excellent and IMO way better than the E Ink Kindle. The firmware handles sideloaded epub books with ease and there's also a slot for an sdcard, something sadly lacking on the Kindle.

    yes, mess for sure.

    no usb port. no way to play truly local content. and you have to transcode, it seems, to meet the player's profiles. the player should play EVERY format, but this one does not. in this day and age, to release a player that has limits seems pretty braindead to me.

    Luckily, none of that's true.

    Plex is working w/o transcoding, XBMC is working with minor glitches, The USB port works with a keyboard and mouse, and with 3rd-party wired controllers (no USB storage yet), and all video formats seem to work. Pretty good start for a couple of days after release!

    XBMC's Gotham release already runs on this device and XDA members are sideloading apps already. It's early days for the FireTV, but it looks promising.
