Oh wow, these are so much fancier than when I was a kid (which honestly, was not that long ago).
Mine was some gray plastic with some shiny holes. Yet it did so much.
Turns out everything is all about marketing. But that concept isn't anything new.

oh well. with a broken mp3 player and a dying phone, it looks like i have to buy two seperate items. but ive always wanted one item that costs much more than the two items combined. ive always wanted an extrordinarily short battery life. ive always wanted an iphone. ho hum.
now, according to some, i am just a stupid kid. so take this post with a grain of salt.
i started out with dos. as time progressed, i bought myself windows 3.1, and eventually journeyed to 98 and xp. then i became tired of my computer's instability (i am not saying that all windows machines are unstable, just the one that i built) and installed suse linux to dual boot with xp. that was pretty cool for a while, but eventually i became tired of non-commercial software (I didnt have the spare time to get half of those free programs to work) and that whole driver issue. So, i bought an apple notebook.
Now, i use all three operating systems. I may spend the majority of my time on an apple, but i boot up in windows or linux for the occasional progam that i need, or to fulfill the desire for a geek moment.
my point: an operating system is an operating system. nothing more. you run programs on it. most operating systems may behave very similar, but there are always subtle differences and nuances. people will choose their operating system based on their desires and needs, not because of a passing fad. i have switched operating systems because of what i want in a computer, not because of what my next-door neighbor is doing with his computer. this may seem obvious, but it cannot be understated. apple has lost two customers. most people will not switch to ubuntu because they saw two guys do it, mac os X is the operating system which they use (for things that other operating systems often cannot do) and have grown accustomed too.
well, quite honestly, even though microsoft has all that extra money, why would they just refuse to do business with an entire continent? dropping a few million euros a day is absolutely nothing compared to the amount of money that they would loose if they simply dropped out of the market in europe.
not only would that reduce the amount of sales for the company, it would increase the amount of competition from open sources and apple. These companies would develop in Europe and leak out into the rest of the world.
Isnt business about getting rich?
What were these kids thinking, anyway? They found a flaw that leaks personal information... Isnt that what myspace is? A way to find out other people's personal information?

There could very well be intelligent forms of life on Jupiter 800 million kilometers from the sun experiencing 2.5 times the gravity on earth and enduring some of the largest storms in the solar system. These life forms could be contributing to jupiter's global warming by burning fossil fuels similar to the ones on earth.
Not thats just proposterous to say that it MAY not strictly be the human race's fualt.
