oh, but they have. They sued the punk band Against All Authority (who's logo is basically the anarcy symbol only with 3 a's) for trademark infringement. *no one* is going to think that they are associated with the American Automobile Association, with the possible exception of their lawyers...
I think that there's a bit of a double standard on most linux interfaces. Everytime that something resembles MS, we're copying them. Everytime it doesn't, and is hard to use (possibly only because it's different and people are used to windows; ie I'm in gnome, clicking on the gnome icon (the footprint) seems like a logical way to start something) it's because the linux community is full of 31337 h4x0r geeks who don't care if no one else can use it. I'm really not suprised, if you take some people who are used to MS software and put them on different software, there will be some confusion. Unless, of course, we make our software look like microsoft, but in that case, were stealing everything from them.

because cops don't compile a history of your behavior over the past 3 years and analyze it to determine your future actions. Cops forget stuff. Cop's brains dont' hook up into a massive govornment database.

Of course not when usage is detrimental to other people as in the case of external pollution. Because by polluting, you are infringing on the rights of others. Additionally, it is o.k. for a corporation to use their resources in nearly any way they see fit. If they buy a piece of land and then fill it with garbage, it will be difficult to resell, thus providing an economic incentive to not pollute.
are you fucking crazy! If someone buys land and fills it with waste, they can: A) bury it 20 feet deep and not tell the person they sell it to B) much more importantly, the next time it rains, all of that waste is going into the water supply. Nope, not hurting anyone. All on my own now worthless property.
"huhuhuhh, go away. we're like closed or something"
yeah, I've noticed that with a lot of things the problem is netscape... (and that's just one example) I think that most of the xterms (at least xterm and gnome-terminal) don't have a "cut" button (g-t has a paste, though) I'd like to see something independent of the app or widget set or whatever that can cut and paste from anywhere (hey, why not be able to cut and paste from console to X, that'd be cool). and btw, I'm using icqnix.
"huhuhuhh, go away. we're like closed or something"
The one thing that I'd like to see for the linux desktop: something like gpm for X, so that I dont' have to mess with menu's or netscape not being able to cut and paste to icq. Just click and paste from anywhere.

A) UCE is annoying, but I don't really care. I take effort to keep myself off of those lists, it is only a problem when it does something that costs *me* money (ie crashing servers, ridiculus bandwith usages and the like.) B) Slashdot is not one person who feel a certian way about everything. did you write down UID's to make sure that it was the same people saying things? saying things like "slashdotters are hypocrites" is just stupid.
"huhuhuhh, go away. we're like closed or something"
I know a little about law, and here's some of it: a trade secret is a fucking *secret*, if I break into your lab at night and steal your data, that's illegal, if I take whatever has been publicly released and figure it out for myself, it's all good and legal. for example: the recipe for coca-cola is a trade secret, if I break into their processing plants and look at the manufacturing process to figure out the recipie, it's illegal. If I buy a coke and analyze it in my own lab, the coca-cola co. is SOL. (unless like here, they hope you don't know the law and write threatening letters...)
"huhuhuhh, go away. we're like closed or something"
God can determin what is right or wrong for you, but I don't believe in god, people will believe in different gods, so while you know definatly in you mind what is right an wrong, people will draw the line at different points. When I said that the bible was translated, I ment not to take it word-for-word, you are obuously aware of it and I respect your effort to truly understand your scripture. It also depends on wether abortion constitutes murder or killing, I see no malice in the act, but some think differently. "I'm not a vegan." - Is killing animals considered murder? Apperently not. "Suicide?... God gave you life..." - Again, by your beliefs. Do you consider it murder? that's about the only one mentioned where the person being killed has a say in the matter. Should that affect wether someone else can decide (back to "choice" and "rights") to take their life. No innocent victim there.
"huhuhuhh, go away. we're like closed or something"

are stupid because they rely on security by obscurity, find out the number and you can do anything. credit cards should have a public and private key and use the private key to sign purchases and the public key to verify them, that way those lists will be that much harder to compile, since packet sniffers would be useless. (it'd also make sure that no one other that the store can watch your purchases.) Censorship of the vital data does not make a secure system.

>abortion=murder murder=to kill with malice. let's leave out the emotional states here and say abortion=killing, ok? now Killing is certianly forbidden by your religion, and I'm glad to see that you apply this to abortion doctors as well as fetuses. Now do you support killing in the following situations: Your life is thretened (or do you turn the other cheek) note that is says that "thou shalt not kill" not "thou shalt not kill man" (keeping in mind that you should *not* take anything by the letter, the bible has been translated) Are you vegan? Killing animals is killing. What about suicide? Your religious beliefs say no, but why should that affect someone else's right (or right that they should have) to kill themselves. Wether killing something is right or wrong is not boolean, there is a gray zone, and where there is a gray zone, there will be controversy because people draw the line at different places. And please don't try to convert me. If god want's a relationship with me, he can talk to me with some of his infinite power, not send humans who have never seen him after me.

If I remember correctly, the U.S. only had enough Plutonium for exactly 3 nukes, one that was tested in New Mexico (they claimed that it was an ammo dump explosion) one on Hiroshima and one on Nagasaki. They dropped them in quick sussecion (sp) to that Japan would *think* that we could to it more that twice, but if they hadn't surrendered we would have had to go back to conventional warfare.

Well if you look around then you'll see that they don't work all of the time. I'm not about to tear every censor's head off, but although last, it is a resort. We may come to that, I hope we don't. We both know that the legal system doesn't always work.

"(Yes, I do mean drag them into the street and hurt them.)" Hmmm... This seems to show the extent of your intellect. Physically harm those that disagree with you. Is that much better than silencing the views of those who don't agree with you? That's what censors do. And it is more than a difference of opinion, I'll let people say what I don't agree with. Censors will make sure that no one can read what they don't agree with. I will fight for the ability to say what I want to say. That's not disagreement, that's my freedom.
