Yeah... people whine and say tax break is not the same thing as subsidy because tax break lets person keep his own money, and subsidy just hands out money. Hmm... let's see now if that argument holds up at all: Everybody in class has to pay the teacher $10, except for Jimmy he doesn't have to pay anything. The teacher then uses that money to build classroom infrastructure, like tables, chairs, chalkboard, books. Everyone in class paid for those --- except for Jimmy. When the kids use the tables, sit on the chairs, use the chalkboard they are not getting any free handouts from the teacher because they've already paid for those goods. Jimmy is getting a free handout: ability to use the goods/services. So to recap: subsidy is government handing out free money. Tax break is government handing out free goods/services. Since goods/services cost money, providing them is not different from giving out money.
No, the jurors are not allowed to present new evidence about the case that wasn't brought up in the court room. But they are allowed to judge the case using their personal experiences as a basis. In this case, Hogan juror personally believed prior-art doesn't mean anything, and this is obvious from the fact that he owns a patent for TiVo despite the fact that TiVo was invented half a decade prior. What Hogan did wasn't illegal....
BUT, Hogan should not have been allowed on the jury, as he clearly has a bias about the case already. He strongly favors the patent holders despite prior-art, and his patent proves it. In American courts there is a jury selection process that is supposed to give the lawyers and the judge the ability to screen out jurors that they feel might have a bias towards one side. I'm not sure how Hogan got past that, but it's definitely a huge mistake, and an impartial judge should be able to see it.
Apple's been copying everyone else since day one. Even iOS 5 is just their crappy iOS with Android features added to it like the notification pull-down menu, OTA updates etc. These are features that Android had for several years, finally Apple has gotten around to copying those features into iOS and somehow they have the audacity to say others are copying them?
What really needs to be done is to cut the tax breaks and subsidies for energy production in this country. The government gives massive handouts to the oil industry making the gas at the pump unrealistically cheap. What you pay is incredibly low because the companies are getting government handouts (in form of subsidies and tax breaks). If we paid the true price of gas at the pump, driving a giant SUV would show its true impact on our wallets. With the government handouts, the true price of fuel is shared among all Americans, so even if you're driving a Chevy volt and you're not spending any money at the pump, you are paying through the nose for the gas that your neighbor puts into his Chevy Suburban. The subsidies and tax breaks are in the billions, and we're all sharing in that burden. If people want to drive giant cars, let them drive giant cars, just don't make me pay for their damn fuel.
Hell, if anything, your little anecdote is a rationale for people to drive nothing but SUVs.
Yes, I completely agree, but why limit ourselves to the SUV? In a wreck between a giant SUV and an HEMTT everyone in the SUV dies while everyone in the HEMTT is left unharmed... in fact the HEMTT can completely run over the SUV and keep driving.
I will not stop until we have legislation requiring everyone to drive around in HEMTT's, because in collision with any other vehicle they're completely safe. So what if it only gets 2.5 miles per gallon? Think of the children that die every year in compact cars! Bigger is safer!
Of course this is all part of a larger movement... I hope that by 2025 every American family will be driving in a Caterpillar 797B. At the rate people are buying Chevy Suburban and Cadillac Escalade, I think we're well on our way! Good job Americans!
Why do people so grossly underestimate trees? In car versus tree, the tree wins every time unless it's a dead rotten hollow trunk. Even an 18-wheeler isn't going to fare well against a healthy adult tree. If you hit a tree with a compact car or a giant pickup truck, the end result will be the same: you will end up with lots of metal wrapped around a tree. For all practical purposes, trees are considered as immovable as a bridge abutments.
Man made roadside objects on the other hand, like guard trails, utility poles, fire hydrants etc are designed to break or absorb energy. Whether you hit them with a giant truck or with a compact, the end result will be the same: the rail/pole/hydrant will break, your vehicle will be badly damaged but there's a very good chance you'll walk away completely unharmed.
how about this: make bios read-only, and include a momentary push button that needs to be pushed in order to make the bios writable for a limited amount of time. Is this too simple?
I'm still not sure, what is RIAA's purpose? The artists compose and perform the music, the distributors (radio stations, iTunes, Google Play, Pandora and P2P etc) distribute that music to the masses. What is RIAA's role in this ecosystem? Where does RIAA fit?
... because you have to be crazy to think something is wrong with this country. You have to be crazy to think it's been hijacked by aristocrats. You have to be crazy that the government is run by elitist corporatist fascists instead of democratically elected leaders that represent the people. You have to be crazy to think "we the people" has been turned into "we the ruling class". You have to be extra crazy to want to fix these problems that you have to be crazy to see in the first place.
He's crazy indeed! Please strap him down in front of a television, turn on Fox News and tape his eyes open so he can be cured of his craziness.
Everyone tries really really hard to be #1 to be linked by Google and other sites, these guys are ass-backward if they think people should actually pay THEM to put what's essentially free ads on their page. If I were Google, I would completely remove all links the sites that don't want to be linked, and let them die in the abyssal depths of Internet oblivion where nobody knows they exist.
What a bunch of retards.
...of course Romney is against net neutrality, but we're just as screwed under Obama too.
Obama will sit by idly and look the other way while SOPA/PIPA,ACTA and all kinds of other hurtful legislation is being thrown around the house. Romney will actively encourage the hurtful legislation. So you (the mindless drone consumers) are going to get the raw end of the deal no matter what.
Really?? Google's evil now because they're defending Android? Apple has been nothing but asshole towards all competition, filing countless frivolous lawsuits, finally Google stands up to say "have a taste of your own medicine" and that makes Google evil? Lame.
Google is probably just about as evil as Apple, but not for fighting back.
The tech who gives you an x-ray, CT or MRI scan won't give you the images either. You can request them from your doctor, and he will (or may have to) give them to you, but he'll probably want to sit down and go through them with you first.
Hey, that's false! My wife got an MRI recently, and I asked the technician to give us a copy of the data. There was no objection or hesitation, the technician simply burned a CD and handed it to us on our way out. I learned that their images are stored in a proprietary format, but conveniently the CD came with the software necessary to view the images.
you need an astronomical amount of farming to get through the content
... or you could play as the wizard and use the teleport skill at the same time as archon skill to enter god mode (complete invulnerability). It took them more than a month to fix this fairly major bug.
"isn't the first studio to claim that Zynga copied its creative product. But we are the studio that has the financial and corporate resources to stand up and do something about it."
If you don't have "the financial and corporate resources to stand up and do something about it", then you're shit out of luck. Justice is blind but she expects payment.
For pay TV, the cable companies surely know what's coming, it's not around the corner anymore, it's tumbling towards them like an avalanche, I don't think anyone can be that blind as to not see it, of course it's Google Fiber and the plethora of online entertainment. At this point the cable TV company executives' plan should be: "charge as much as possible to line our personal coffers with subscriber money before ditching the company to chapter 11". So expect these douche-bags to be giving themselves billion dollar bonuses while putting zero into R&D and letting their company crash and burn.
Right now I'm paying $65/mo for Time Warner Cable for just Internet. In return I'm getting less than 1mbps upload, 15mbps download. This is simply not acceptable in the year 2010. Time Warner should have invested the subscriber money into R&D and better infrastructure, but the douche-bags in charge just want to make their personal mega millions jackpot and let the company sink.
Cool, I got one from them too, Matrix 27" 2560x1440. It's gorgeous!! There's just 1 dead pixel on the bottom left corner, it's so far off to the side I can't see it. It has two missing sub-pixels elsewhere. Considering it was less than half the price of a comparable monitor, it's worth it! The display itself is to die for. It was $318 including DHL shipping. It comes with dual link cable.
Hold on there buddy! That's 40GB of data the users downloaded? Does the ISP have the right to make copies of the data the users downloaded? What gave them the copyright over the user's data?
Is there a DMCA take-down equivalent you can issue in Australia to have them remove the content that they are illegally duplicating? Send a cease and desist letter to your ISP, threaten them with legal action if they do not immediately erase the material they are illegally storing on their servers.
It's about time we get serious about copyright violation. One thing is very clear: you never gave the ISP any permission to make copies of the data you're transmitting. The information you are transmitting is for you and the server you're transmitting to. Any operation to capture and duplicate the transmission is a violation of the copyright law. What they are doing is a violation of your copyright.
To clear up some confusion I found the source on CPSC's own site. It's slightly more informational than the Reuters summary... But I'm still confused.
I bought tiny fridge magnets from The Container Store that are actually tiny neodymium cubes, are they banned also? Are they exempt because they're not toys?
How about just plain neodymium magnets direct from suppliers? Are they banned also or are they exempt because they're not labeled as toys?
How about a hobby brushless motor kit that comes with neodymium magnets? Is that banned also or is that exempt because even though it's a toy the magnets are supplied with the purpose of installing them in the motor?
So many unanswered questions... I think it would be easier to require all kids to wear muzzles to keep their mouth closed at all times. It would solve all the issues where kids choke on things or eat poisonous/dangerous materials, and has added benefit of muffling their annoying whiny cries.
Yeah... people whine and say tax break is not the same thing as subsidy because tax break lets person keep his own money, and subsidy just hands out money. The man violated the trust placed in him.
Manning betrayed the people who betrayed their countrymen. Manning is guilty only if you have no allegiance to your country.
Exposing a criminal is treason only to criminals.
Now you can have a car accident where you're both the driver and the pedestrian!

Yes, that is indeed what they said.
EA and Zynga will both lose. The only winners are lawyers. Lawyers win every time.

This kind of fraud should be classified as mail fraud, and the perpetrators charged accordingly.
