Come on stop taking everything that comes out so seriously. Games are for entertainment.
How many of us (at least I know I did) have that one individual who got on your nerves, lol.
Its a fun and harmless way to blow some steam, that's it. Don't read into it like it deserves
a philosopical, psychological, socialogical (or whatever) analysis. Its entertainment. Simple.

"...But not by Windows. Time Machine goes way beyond Windows' System Restore, and is more similar to VMS's versioning filesystem. Spaces is just virtual desktops, yes, but Windows never had them either [from Microsoft] except for a half-assed "PowerToy."
However, lets not forget that Microsoft states that the 'powertoys' are not supported and are applications that individual teams work on for fun, hence while it may be half-assed, Microsoft has never claimed that it was a full-featured application to begin with.

Bah, I for one, don't see forcing a company to give up its infomation to rivals as healthy.
Maybe its the capitalist in me, but my blood, sweat, and tears put into a product(s), just to have
give it away, because I'm 'big' seems like the other company's are a bunch of whiny, crybabies
who need to be hand-fed.
Perhaps some don't care about making money (good, go find me the store that will give you food for free)
, but I find it saddening, when or if an individual wants to be #1, they get cut down, (like crabs in a barrel)
Personally, I hope MS figures out how to sidestep this, cause you should never be punished for winning.

Um... what world are you living in. Star Trek is a fantasy, (as far as I know)
For some to win, others must lose. Its that simple, and YES business is a war, a war of who gets the most money.

Without a doubt Microsoft is a for-profit company, good or evil being the decision of the individual consumer.
Is Microsoft Office (to include its file formats) an open standard. No, however they are a 'de facto standard'.
ODF while an open standard, true will gain more users overtime, but to simply dismiss proprietory software companies
simply because they won't 'open' their standards is foolish. The question of how Microsoft gained their 'de facto' standard,
I'll leave to others, I simply look at it like this, their software works, I've never had a problem getting other document formats
to work in Word or any other MS application, (or for that matter any of their applications / operating systems). Some people do have
issues with them, true, I've fixed / patched enough computers with their software to know that. I'll even be so bold to say a lot of the
problems, are user generated, though some have been squarely on Microsoft's shoulders. Be that as it may, considering the investment (or
loss of investment) a lot of the Anything But Microsoft crowd is advocating is highly significant. Accepting open standards, just because
they are open, sometimes is not the best way to proceed (think of the too many chefs in the kitchen theory).
Not saying I'm right, but I am saying dismissing a Microsoft solution, just because its Microsoft sometimes is kinda stupid I think.

Why is it when a propietory software development company decides to take an existing standard and either
(1) improve upon it, or modify it for their (and possibly their customer needs)
or
(2) create a entirely new and different standard, which offers the same (or similar features)
and
(3) its done for profit, they are demonized?
I'm new here true, but I've been in and around the business for more than few years, seriously though
if you (and I mean the open source community, not any particular individual) feel that spending upwards of
$50,000+ for an education, or the self-learners (who probably spent that much in time) feel that taking the
time to create something others to use for free is cool, then hey go for it. However, as money is the driving
force of the world, and due to the fact its not GIVEN away (unless you really are rich or mentally challenged
(again, my opinion)), please explain to me, as I may be looking at this from the wrong perspective, why would
you (again, addressed to the open source community), give work, which can generate revenue, on its merit alone,
away for free?
One more question, but first an observation. I keep reading that OSS is free, as in beer. Please, in what world,
tell me where beer is free? I know Budwiser, Coors, Samuel Adams, is DEFINITELY not making beer for free?
Lest anybody think otherwise, I don't work for MS (US Marine and CompSci and BusAdmin Double Major here), and while I don't agree with everything they do,
I do believe in making as much money as possible, hence why I'm double majoring in Computer Science and Business Administration,
but responses to articles like these just seem to get my goat for some reason. Again, just some questions on my mind.
Respectfully and S/F

In today's news,
"Steve Jobs was arrested for dropping an SAB (Small Apple Bomb), accidently on purpose in Norway, to get them to see things HIS way about iTunes EULA,
he was dragged off to a sanitarium, screaming, DRM Rules the planet!! DRM Rules the planet!!"
I'm guessing he do not get a FAIRPLAY.

Beer is not free though, so again how long will Skype be free?
Hmmm... until they have a large user base, probably so.
