  1. Hmmm... on Dvorak Says Apple Move to Intel Will Harm Linux · · Score: 2, Insightful

Apple will grab a lot of Windows users with this move, but many more Linux users will switch. Linux users will get familiar environment on their platform of choice. Plus, if they don't like OSX as much they can always boot into linux, this time, they can but their favourite x86 distro.
I wonder can you install Xp on that machine...

  2. Are these good points? on Beatles Bite Apple · · Score: 1

I'm more interested in what is the next move of both parties. For example, Apple can always argue that iPod is actually a computer that happens to play music files just like its big brother PowerMac. They settled with Apple Records for this long time ago.
iTunes Music Store was never advertised as Apple iTunes Music Store so maybe their lawyers did the hard work before they even started thinking about this project. Maybe they even founded different company (of course run by Apple people) just for this matter.
I simply don't believe that they were so stupid not to think about this before they started it all.

  3. Funny on Ximian Evolution's New Clothes · · Score: 1

"What do you think about a maturing Evolution that goes its own way and leaves the Outlook-like interface behind?"

It looks awfully similar to Entourage Microsoft's product for Macs.

  4. Re:Death to Big Labels on Apple Wooing Smaller Labels · · Score: 2, Interesting

AFAIK, Apple is charging 35c per song for the service. If indie label wants e.g. 35c per song songs can be cheaper than current 99c. Greedy big 5 gets more than 60c per download. I think the prices could come down a little when indie labels enter the market.
    This will be really interesting.

  5. MySQL new version on Slashback: Cinelerra, Dolphiname, Phoenix · · Score: 1

Can't wait this on Mac OSX.

  6. Re:Answers. on xtunes Forced to Change Name, Appearance by Apple Lawyers · · Score: 1

As for iCal, Apple created the i[insert name here] format of naming. They have a supreme right over it.

How stupid was that, ical existed long before any of the Apple iApps. If they have a supreme right over naming, they should send their lawyers to at least 100 current mac developers for breach of naming rights (check VT for more info).

I was disgusted to see how they use their corporate power against open source developer that actually makes crappy software that nobody is using, but anyway, shame on you Apple

  7. The Problem on PC Users Switch to Apple · · Score: 2, Insightful

Usually when people say somebody switched they think that person switched from using MS OS', not entirely true, I switched from Linux, so what Apple can offer many alternative OS' users to switch to overpriced patform

  8. You were right! on Mac OS X 10.1.5 Update Available · · Score: 1

    Sweet stuff inside!
When you press eject button (F12) you see eject icon on the screen,
New option in Energy Saver preference, "reduce processor performance" on my iBook.

Access to iDisk is so much faster, not as fast as Goliath but really fast now.

  9. Re:Why? on KDE Ported to Mac OS X · · Score: 1

Have you ever used KDE before?
There are so many great apps for KDE that you wouldn't believe. I admit, OSX interface is much better and cleaner but application make the difference. There is no better browser than Konqui, no better terminal app than Konsole, no such IRC client for OSX as Kvirc... I could give you at least twenty more apps that OSX crowd would really appreciate. I just wish that QT for Macs is GPLd, this would mean those apps could be ported to take full advantage of Quartz and Aqua on top of it.

  10. Mac OS X version... on Mozilla RC3 Released · · Score: 0

... just as bloated as all previous versions. I like rendering speed, tabbed browsing but something has to be done in bloating department. I haven't tested this version thoroughly so I can't comment much on that other options, but I was a little dissapointed when I saw there was no debugging code in this release and it is still as slow as before.

  11. Great Porn And Warez Browser on Mozilla-Based Browser Sports Cocoa Front End · · Score: 2, Funny

Tabs are great for browsing porn and warez sites, this is going to be my favourite, I really miss my Galeon

  12. Re:I'm still going for YellowDog... on First Beta Of Mandrake Linux 8.2 For PPC · · Score: 1

To conclude I would like to see if someone has installed Linux and made his /home a HFS partition to enable Data Sharing with MacosX ?
And did you notice performance issues , or is it ( or not ) wise to to this ?

I still haven't installed Linux on my new iBook (I'm waiting for Mandrake final) but if you are considering to share a partition you should check some things first.
HFS+ does not support case sensitivity so maybe you are better off converting it to UFS
I'm not sure does the latest kernel support UFS.
If there is support for UFS you could have some practical problems. For example you should definetely keep your User ID and Group ID in sync between OS' so you don't have any files in your /home with strange ownership. If your UID in OSX is 501 make it exactly the same in Linux. I had no problems sharing ext2fs home partition between FreeBSD and Linux, this should be very similar

  13. DD and DTS is a must on What Audio System Powers Your Home Theater? · · Score: 1

Don't even bother with something if it can't decode Dolby Digital and DTS. I've got a cheap but great Pioneer receive VSXD409 which can do them both. Spend your money on good speakers and forget about Bose, they are too expensive and can't deliver. I've got great Tannoy M2's, sound is just perfect. Look at the www.audioreview.com for other users comments of any gear you want to buy. Don't rush and buy, wait and choose until you are fully satisfied. These are just some of the tips that can help you choose the right components of your home theatre system

  14. It's not just Nautilus on Latest Eazel Screenshots · · Score: 1

As far as I know the whole project is not just to create a File Manager. Probably the file manager is their main concern now so almost all screenshots are showing off what it can or can't do. The most impressive screenshot for me is the one that shows desktop. You can see there completely new user interface and that is what I'm looking forward to. Although I'm KDE user and can't wait KDE2 I will definetely wait to see how this project develops in the coming months and if they deliver what they promised I would be a happy man
