Yes, they are. What they aren't free to do is slander other programmers by claiming that their browsers don't work right when they clearly render the HTML as well as MS's own browser does (that is, not very well since the code isn't W3C compliant and doesn't even render correctly in IE).

Gosh, the DoJ seems strangely quiet on this one. What do you suppose the odds are that they're actually going to pursue any course of action with our shiny new corp-friendly government in place?

Well, I didn't notice the release either, and I actually use Windows (or admit it, at least). It has more to do with the fact that everyone I know who was interested in XP has had a pirated copy of some form (alpha, RCs, RTMs...) for months now. Why should the fact that it's on the shelves make any difference whatsoever?

For the record, I'm sticking with Win98SE. It sucks much less than the other MS offerings (Win2K zealots need not respond). I can boot into 98 natively when I need to play games, and run it in vmware when I want mIRC and other programs that don't need native speed or graphics power. As far as I'm concerned, XP isn't even worth pirating.

I have a cheapo Winfast GeForce 2MX video card I got from Best Buy. The problem is Best Buy only has a 15-day warranty and I have no idea where to find a local point of contact for the company (I don't want to ship it to China). Now it's been over 90 days, and I have no idea if the company will even replace it. Any suggestions other than "stay away from cheap hardware, pinhead"?

I never had a problem with that, as it was part of their business model, but what I *did* have a problem with was when I needed that money and found out it would take them up to five business days to transfer it into my bank account. What, they can take money out immediately but not put it in until a week later? Unless there's some subtlety of wire banking I'm not aware of, this seems a rather shady way of squeezing as much interest revenue as possible out of my money. Fuck PayPal.

With my PC and a dual-boot win/lin setup I can play all the console/arcade/other emu stuff (including a very good GBA emulator, which I believe the Mac still does not have), plus any linux-specific games, plus DX games, plus anything running on MacOS 8.0 or earlier (through the exceptional Fusion Mac emu). There really is no difference in the number of systems you can emulate between the Mac and PC platforms. Use whatever you like.
